Here is a photo (from the SA Series web site) of what is said to be the oldest Land Rover in South Africa.
This is a photo of it back in the day and it still exists today.
For interests sake, do we have one here in Australia that pre-dates it?
Chassis No. R866-1355

Cheers, Mick.

R866xxxx would be a 1949 vehicle. We have a few R86xxxx 1948 vehicles in Australia.

Too true: R860004 exists in WA (3 production vehicles after HUE-166)
R860138 exists in Sydney
R860139 exists in Cooma.
L048 exists in Perth WA, (Pre-production vehicle but built after the early production vehicles had commenced)
<snip>... For interests sake, do we have one here in Australia that pre-dates it?

Cheers, Mick.Actually, that chassis number can not be correct 866 prefix vehicles commenced at serial 3001 (*8663001)

Its probably '48 model R861355

Fabricated firewall '48 models were R860001 (HUE-166) through R861500.
Pressed firewall '48 models were *861501 through *863000
1949 models continued until R8667920.

Not as far as I'm aware. It was first despatched to a Rover Co employee by the name of Mr A.H Francis, who it turns out was the first Managing Director of Rover Australia.

That was the issue, back around 2006 when AC260 and I discussed it the vehicle sent out to Regent Motors in Melbourne for Mr H.A Frances was supposed to be R860103 although at that time he suspected that #130 may have been the same vehicle and that a typo had occurred somewhere.

Would be great to see pics and may be get a report about the state of each of these early vehicles. Is that possible? Would the owners co-operate?

Also a very old photo of what might have been 138 as the first Grenville Motors demonstrator in NSW.
