Okay, so I am thinking of replacing the front tie down points with Jate rings or some other rated recovery hook or loop so I don't have to run out the winch every time I come across a stranded Patrol or Cruiser on the narrow tracks where turning around is an issue.

Anyone have anything up front in place of the tie down hoops? Where from and any issues?

Thanks in advance for your advice and help

Also quite handy for testing entry/departure angles ;)
Have to admit yet to pull someone out backwards.

Where did you get them? Let ok better than what I was looking at.

Have a look at Apt steering guard, recovery points are part of it

Got mine about 4 years ago and gone out of business I was since told, but there is someone in OZ doing something similar - painted red if I recall. Apparently the problem is getting them rated if you want to manufacture/sell.

Any recovery point whether rated or not needs to have the shackle pin hole in the vertical axis so as the shackle can align itself to the load.
Those with horizontal pin holes can cause damage to and lessen the SWL/WLL of a shackle, shackles are designed to be loaded in the straight ahead line, not dragged sideways making the shackle the weakest link in the recovery setup.
Simple collared eyebolt, with the pin hole vertical, mounted to a boxed in section on the end of the chassis rails, passing through the bull bar so as the bar is not a part of the recovery point, Regards Frank.

I too have a steering guard with the recovery points built it - very strong, looks like they are 1/2" plate. The steering gaurd is bolted to the chassis with 4 high tensile bolts each side so you could actually hang the car in the air easily with them - like in 'The Gods must be Crazy'. :D
