Hi Guys,
Firstly in advance I apologize if I am asking a repeated question...
Just clocked up 10k with the new motor and full service done. All has been great with everything working well,. Heading off North again soon to beat the winter chills. When the engine oil was changed I noticed they use "Castrol Professional" 5w 30 full synthetic which is a proprietary formulae from Castrol to Landrover Specs, and not available over the counter.(Castrol is owned by BP). As I always do when away towing caravan I always change Engine Oil and filter at 5000k. Gets rid of the soot and keeps wear to a minimum. The LR spec calls for 5W30 WSS-M2C913-B and I am wondering how close to original specs that Castrol Edge 5W30 full synthetic for DPF is? (see pic & PDF) My new engine still subject to warranty and there are not many Landrover Dealers in the outback up North. cheers :)

For vehicles with DPF that oil should be fine if rated Ford WSS-M2C-934B.If for a Discovery without DPF then Ford WSS-M2C-913-C is suitable ie Castrol Edge 5W30 A3B4 would fill the bill.

Compare your spec with the Diesel Territory,if they match availability should be good, plenty of Ford dealers in the bush still.

I found Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF to be readily available.
It is compliant with WSS-M2C913-C and -D.
From what I've read here (http://www.oilspecifications.org/ford.php) the -C and -D specs are just upgraded versions and backwards compatible with the -B spec.

They are the 2.7.As long as yours is non DPF it should be the same.Check as there are 2 different specs of oil for the DPF/non DPF motors.

The Castrol magnatec professional A5 for Discovery 3 is available from Repco in a 20ltr drum for $175 you may have to get them to order it in but only takes a day. Lot cheaper than the Castrol 5w 30 FST in a 5 litre tub.
Cheers

Just contacted the Local Repco @ Penrith regarding availability of 20ltr drum and told professional not sold to the public, trade workshops only. Rang Castrol and got part number (3383405) of oil product from their online oil selector for the Disco3 and went back to Repco and they wanted $301.00 for it.....They have it sewn up,,,,,:confused: however rang around a few Truck Spares and found some at Unanderra for $171 so off for a picnic drive down the Coast.

Its actually one of the reasons why I stopped using Castrol (BP), as they didnt really seem to bothered if they sold you oil or not. I used to have to order in Castrol Professional from the local BP distributor.

Hence my move to Penrite, IMHO Penrite is not only a better product but their sales and support is second to none.

Basically the specs are....
Ford spec Land Rover use for NON DPF equipped is M2C-913B
Ford spec Land Rover use for DPF equipped is M2C-934B

Keep in my though, lets be realistic, there really is no way I can say (or anyone can) that one brand is better than another. So look at available product information and specs.

In saying that though, the two main oils I use in customers vehicles, both new in warranty and out (DPF, non DPF), all seem to run better long term with what I'm using/doing.

Thanks Daz, I received a reply email back from Castrol Technical Section as follows:

Thank you for your enquiry,

- Castrol ?Magnatec 5w30 A5? (Item Code 3383405) meets Ford WSS M2C 913B and is recommended for your 2008 Discovery 3 2.7L without DPF.
- Castrol ?Edge 5w30? does not meet the above requirement and is not recommended for your vehicle with or without a DPF.

So until new motor out of Warranty I will use the Castrol. Cheers Don

Have managed 350k in my D3 2.7, doesn't burn oil between 10k services, runs like a swiss watch, all on Castrol (BP) Edge 5-30.
So what oil should I be using, if that doesn't meet Ford specs?
WHAT'S DFP?? I figure don't have it.

IMHO Penrite 3-30?

DPF? Diesel Particulate Filter. Your (and no D3 in Aus) vehicle does not have one.
