Calling it quits on the mechanic I've been using for my Perentie.
I've been using him for all my families cars for 15 years, but there have been a number of safety related things that have been missed on the Perentie that I believe should have been picked up.
Leads me to believe that he and his staff really don't know what to look for on an old Land Rover, but are not willing to say 'take it to someone who knows these cars'.
It's a shame, but there it is.
So now I need to find a mechanic who knows Land Rovers in the Brisbane area. M.R. Automotive up at Redcliffe seems to be the shop most frequently mentioned, but that is a fair hike from me, so I'm looking for other options.
If anyone can make some recommendations, I'd appreciate it.

I've used Greg Tunstall at ormiston near Cleveland for my perentie. One of his blokes owns one so that helps. It's a very busy place so if you need it back the same day be really clear about that. It's not far from the train so that's handy for me. I've noticed some other use it.
As far as the Isuzu donk is concerned I've used Archies Motors at Rocklea. They seem to do a lot of work on Isuzu trucks. They are also good.
I know what you mean, I previously had the perentie looked after by the local mechanical place. But as they were unfamiliar with the car they took much longer to figure out repairs. Again too busy and overlooked stuff. The final straw was when they didn't tighten up a ball joint nut and the steering drag link fell off while is was driving with the kids.

Thanks, RAR.
:o steering drag link fell off while is was driving with the kids:o. Jeebus.
One of my biggest fears there (along with tie rod end failure at high speed)
Mine was missing that all the suspension (springs and shocks)were completely shot, and telling me my steering box was fine with about 4" of play in the steering wheel.
That shop is on my list. Ben from APT Fabrications gave me his name.
I was really hoping to find a shop relatively central (I'm currently in Bardon). Everything seems to be way out, making getting to a shop difficult.
Looks like I'm going to have to make a car service an all day event!

Or you can try Rover Care @ Slacks Creek. Paul has/had the ADF contract for the Perentie gearboxes. 32091970

It could have been really bad. Its an interesting story, as a thief probably saved us from a bad accident. The kids were very young and I was ferrying stuff to the 110 for an outing. In one load was a shopping bag containing my wallet which went in the front of the 110. In between trips to the car a thief stole my wallet out of the shopping bag. I needed to get fuel on the way. I pulled into the servo and decided to make sure I had my wallet before refuelling. I couldn't find it so did a u-turn to go home again thinking I'd left it behind. The low speed turn caused the drag link to jump out. It could have easily happened on a HW section at 100km/hr, probably resulting in a roll over.

If you are on the north side I would recommend M.R. automotive at Redcliffe on Anzac Ave.they are Landrover specialists, they do all my vehicles both Series and Coilers, and I know that they have Perentie knowledge as I have seen several there both 4 and 6 wheelers, I have been dealing with them since 1986 when I got my Series 2a GS,good quality spares and workshop staff, our Disco 1 Tdi is the Workshop managers old vehicle,I would thoroughly recommend them.
cheers
