Can you plug in the Nanocom, when the engine is running?
That is plugging the cable into the data port?
Thanks

As far as I am aware this doesn't pose a problem. One of the ways to "wake it" if it has turned off is to unplug and plug it in again. Shouldn't make a difference as far as I understand. It only communicates to the ecu etc at certain times while performing functions.
You'd best wait for some confirmation though... I'm super new to my Nanocom Evo II.
Cheers Wil.

Yes, but make sure you don't ever do the reverse ie leave it plugged into the OBDII port and then try and connect to the Nanocom port.

That bit I do know, The cable stays connected to the Nanocom.

As has been stated, You can happily live plug into the OBDII socket regardless of if the engine is running or not.
But always ensure you connect the Nanocom to the lead first ;)

BECAUSE THEY SPARK IF YOU TRY.
Maybe a warning sticker on the back of the unit might warn people?

It might not be an option as it might not have been supplied.
I know when I purchased one years ago there was no documentation included.
But as you are aware not many people actually read things. That's why they get in strife.

All down to the Angle of the Dangle, wind direction, Luck of the draw or whatever else you might like to call it.
The reality is that the 15 Way D connector on the nanocom is not designed for what they call "Hot Plugging" hence we recommend making the OBDII connection last, which is designed for this.
In not following this advice, fractions of a millmeter will dictate the result from no problem through sparking, blowing Vehicle fuses to the extreme and rare but very real possibility of permanatetly damaging a Nanocom.
At but the click of my fingers, as the Owner of BBS I could get my own personal vehices OBDII fuse replaced or even another Nanocom pulled from stock, but even I adhere very strictly to a policy of ensuring I connect and dissconect the OBDII conector first.
It is after all not some difficult rocket science.
