Head linings for series

Hi all. Introducing myself to you .
I refurbish series roof top headlinings and am based in North brisbane.
Generally I re insulate. Re cut new roof vinyl. Repair support ribs. Restore safari roof vents including sealing them up properly.
Finally I manufacture the new headlining out of felt vinyl or carpet type materials and fit.

I'll get some kind of ad running eventually but I'm new to the country so bear with me.

Welcome, but if you are advertising services, I think you need to be registered on the forum as a vendor.

You are also likely to find few Australian Series Landrovers have headlinings, so business may be a bit thin! Perhaps fitting unlined roofs may be a better business.

I'm a landrover nut and enthusiast .. not just someone making hard to find landy bits.

I've seen more SWB and LWB safari roofs here than in the uk and to my knowledge all of these had a decent head lining installed when they left Solihull.
I have had landies with unlined roofs also .. not pleasant !
Noisy (standing waves.. resonance etc )
But perhaps you are right and I can produce linings for unlined roofs also.

Question...
Do series owners run canvas hoods here ?
I've not seen many at all..
The few I have seen have been military.

Safari roofs were an optional extra on any hardtop or ute cab, and were commonly fitted to government Series 1 and 2/2a in particular. As far as I know, until well into Series 3 production, the only Australian built ones with head linings were station wagons (quite rare in Australia) and the few fitted with the optional deluxe trim. Head linings became standard in many late Series 3 models, as Landrover's market share shrank.

I worked with a fleet of Series 1s with safari roofs, with no head lining, and have owned a number of hardtop and cab Series 1, 2, 2a and 3, but the only one with factory headlining was a 1981 Series 3 trayback 109, whose cab is now on my 2a.

In the heyday of Landrovers as on-farm vehicles, swb canvas tops were pretty much standard, but by the mid sixties, the most common privately purchased Landrover was a trayback lwb, and as the market shrivelled in the eighties, became the lwb wagon. Government vehicles have always been predominantly hardtops, except of course for the military.

I don't think Landrover has offered a canvas topped Landrover to the civilian market in Australia since the mid seventies, and a lot of those originally canvas topped have had hardtops or cabs fitted in the years since. Canvas tends to have a relatively short life in much of Australia, is very expensive to replace, and poses a security problem.

As you have noticed, nearly all the ones you will see are ex-military.
