View Full Version : Do I need four bonnet stops for bonnet mounted spare?

I'm slowly getting around to putting the spare on the bonnet but read somewhere (and now I can't find it ) that bonnets that came with spares from factory have four bonnet stops along the front of the bonnet instead of just two. Like most bonnets mine's only got two on the outer edges, so wondering whether missing the center two will cause too much stress on the bonnet.
Anybody had issues with just the two stops? Or, what I'd rather hear; have you got two stops and no issues :p

Mine's got two stops and there have been no issues, and it's done the Tanami, Gulf, Cape and Kimberley, so had prolonged corrugation driving.
I'd also recommend the after-market bonnet hinges that Land Rover Tuning or MudStuff sell. Although they make it harder for the bonnet to be totally removed, they get rid of lateral movement, which is very annoying over 700km of corrugations with or without a tyre on the bonnet. That movement causes a tapping right on the firewall.
Also the factory fitted spare tyre bonnets had a solid bonnet stay instead of the scissor action stay.

Thanks for the info Michael, sounds like I'll leave it like it is and see how it goes.
I've got a new bonnet stay but I hadn't heard of the hinge issue, I'll have a look into that.
