G`day ,
i know there is some interest in LSE numbers .
Last month , just rained , wife in a hurry to get back to see her father in the nursing home ( see takes him up to lunch each day ) .
Luckily she`s ok as she hit the bank rather than go over the drop into the river and nothing was coming the other way .
The softy had an normal classic non airbag ARB bar on it .
Both bags fired and wife is pleased they were there .
I was always a bit apprehensive about putting the bar on it because of all the stories told but from my understanding of the SRS system in these i couldn`t see why it would be hindered .
There`s no knowing for certain but luckily for me in this instance every thing worked as it should .
The insurance deemed it a total loss which i expected and they gave us market .
So if you have one it has increased in value yet again .
There`s one for sale in Perth at the moment ours was the same car almost , ours actually was first registered in Perth .
The asking price of that one is pretty much RACV market .

Very happy your wife is OK.
Sad that there's one less LSE in the world though, I miss mine a lot.

Very pleased that your wife came out of it okay but what a shame yours was written off.
It won't be long and my soft dash LSE will be an endangered species....or has that happened already......:D
What will you be replacing the LSE with?

Thanks ,
we`re looking at L322 but not set on them it`s a hard decision to make , if i was a discovery person , we won`t have Range Rovers .
Like i said elsewhere in my opinion the classic type are the only real Range Rovers
Our other registered car is a basic 84/5 RR that has been a daily for over 20 yrs , it needs work to be the main car but not alot .
We still have another Soft Dash shorty with a 4.6 and on lpg that i could put back on the road its done over 300,000km like the LSE had but it has been used for the LSE .
Things like take the arms off the shorty , fit new bushes swap with the LSE and switches and other stuff but it`s not past putting back on the road and being white a cut and polish and it would be like new , well from a distance .
We also have one of the last model Hard Dash shorty 94 compliance that could do the job the short softy was doing but it only done 200,000km .
So quite a few things that could happen but i also wouldn`t mind just buying something and doing the others when i had the motivation .
Cheers

Any spare parts?
Thanks ,
yes , i advertised the back doors and roof ETC locally but then i realised we are the only ones around here with Classics so i took it all out the tip .
Not really , i don`t know what the insurance co did with it or where it went to , i didn`t ask .
Do still have the wheels off it , but they`ll fit the others .
In the last 6 mths , i`d replaced all the suspension bushes , fitted a heater core , fitted new cv joints both sides , both heads reco , new mud flaps , new fuel pump and more stuff , the viscous still worked so i was not happy to see it go .
Cheers

You truly are a paid up member of the Rangie Tragic Club PLR. What a collection! More power to you mate.
Like you I am not a Disco fan and wouldn't own one but a schmicko Defender could maybe sneak into my possession. Apart from my LSE I also have a Jap fourby and my heart says swap it for another RR but my head says keep it.
Have you considered another LSE? Every now and then an unmolested one turns up for sale.

Trouble is they turn up at the wrong time .
There was one in Melbourne late last or early this .
Couldn`t justify what was asked and couldn`t justify the trip to get yet another one .
Was a good one in Hobart same time need a gearbox but still drove and had been resprayed , it was cheap but i couldn`t get away at the time and cars from Tassie need $1500 added if you not going yourself .
Mainland car cartage is surprisingly cheap if you shop . Some dealers seem to need a profit margin for it but if you arrange it yourself it`s much cheaper .
Wife also likes RR , after insurance got back to us wanted to know if we could get another , she thinks if she wasn`t in the RR the outcome may not have been as good .
One reason i didn`t keep the LSE is because i know it would have been upsetting for her to see it all the time .
She likes the look of P38a and i could get a few of them for the same money as what a L322 would cost .
We looked at X5 s but they don`t have the room in them , i think our old RR has more leg room in the back but they are related to the L322 so some parts would interchange and there are alot of X5 s about .
I won`t actually know what we do till it`s done and there is not really any rush .
Though i have been sort of looking for the last 2 years and still can`t come up with a definite replacement and that was not to replace the LSE but the other one

I've been contemplating the quandary of L322 or P38.
The prospect of expected repairs to the L322 such as the Vanos, suspension, steering column, auto transmissions has raised plenty of viability doubts in my mind from both reliability and financial perspectives.
I am beginning to form the conclusion that getting a P38 and allowing for the cost of the common repairs of heater core, blend motors, cooling system might make it a more reliable buy for a lot less total financial outlay....and it is still a luxurious and capable car all for a relatively small outlay.

The L322 4.4 Jag v8 with ZF 6 speed sounds like a pretty good vehicle. Less expensive and less complex than the later super charged and tdv8 terrain response models. However I like my 3.6 tdv8 a lot.

G`day ,
because we live in the county the P38 is the clever choice because a spare parts one costs not much , even thors can go cheap , whereas with the L322 parts needed wouldn`t be on hand .
One concern i have about the L322 is they tend to be flasher than we are so as well as all the other things we`d need one that didn`t look too flash .
It`s one of the reasons i didn`t look at them too closely when we still had the LSE .
I actually have a set of Comet wheels and a Kaymar wheel carrier for a P38 so i guess i must intend to get a P38 at some stage , i just don`t realise it .
I really don`t understand why i`m having so much trouble deciding , i have all the facts , i have a couple a bob , i guess when the right one fronts up i`ll know .

Thanks ,
if an L322 i`d only be looking at the BMW ones unless a cheapy the same type as yours came up .
It does seem though that they are all initially pretty good until they prove themselves other wise , which they all tend to at some stage or another .
I think with any it`s a matter of learning about them and then you know what is good and bad what has to be fixed and what is an inconvenience , ETC

Everyone seems to be missing the obvious IMO :D
it would take a broken headlight to writeoff a old classic. How bad is the damage to the LSE. If it's the nose, surely you can stick another nose on it given a weekends work, and your away again :D

G`day ,
Yes , i missed that it should have been obvious , my main concern wasn`t with the car .
Front door doesn`t open without grabbing , rear quater sitting out about a foot , same side rear door doesn`t seat well .
Radiator support back so`s the battery won`t come out .
Both chassis rails out the front at 45 degrees , one side torn away , as i understand thats`s an engineer inspect .
Even if a VIV were possible have you priced a new complete SRS system that would be required , not just the bags the entire system .
Yes , your right about the headlight there was one left and useable too .

Bloody hell... That's a MASSIVE hit .... I'm glad your wife is ok :o :o :o I was thinking a simple front on hit that's taken out the radiator, headlight and bonnet (which would easily write off a low value car).

Not good but probably sounds worse .
If it wasn`t insured and no paper work was done on it , i`d imagine it would have had some different colours on it but we would have been using it within a week or so , it`s one of the reasons we have a spare short one .

I thought your car had taken a decent hit but nothing like you have described. Great outcome for your wife considering what happened to the car.
...................it`s one of the reasons we have a spare short one .
Now that is the essence of a true Range Rover owner. Always prepared for the worst whilst enjoying the best and all with out compromising ideals and humbling one self by taking on a Jappo.B) :D

I've been contemplating the quandary of L322 or P38.
In my opinion the L322 is destined to become the next classic, and as Jeremy Clarkson once said (and many have repeated since) "The P38 just has no soul........" I drove a brand new P38 to Perisher and back in early 1996 just after it was released, off the back of a market research evening (they even threw in a free tank of fuel). As nice as it was I have never been inclined to own one.......
Both will drain your bank accounts dry, test your marriage, question your sanity.......
I like my new Prado :)

G`day .
Took a long time , about 3 mths which seems alot to me but it finally went to auction on monday .
Went for a bit over $1000 with fees , which was too much for me knowing the car and not having an LSE anymore , though worth much more than that in bits , which for me wouldn`t have been an option .
The replacement is a diesel L322
Cheers
