Hi after a couple of years or so of an issues i now think from research on the ZF 6HP26 is known as the "lurch". I have 4.0 Petrol D3 2006 model. Its a really annoying issues that i would like to resolve.

And yes transmission has been flushed and refilled with no impact, steel pan, correct fluid etc.

I had thought the transmission was on the way out however what always confused me is that there has been no degradation of the issue in well over 2 years. Its been there since i bought the car. The issue is that as you pull up it feels like the clutch pedal has not been depressed (comparing to a manual) and the car pushes forward slightly and you feel a drag. Everywhere else gear changes are beautifully smooth up and down and no sign of any slip under and load situations. no vibrations etc

Now my mechanic - no need to name also seemed to think box was on the way out. So i have been biding my time waiting and waiting for the $7k bill.

Now i heard a while back about a work colleague who had a BMW X5 - when comparing notes we both had the same issue - and the symptoms were identical, not surprising they have the same gearbox and in BMW land its a well known issue it is also well known in Jaguar land and called "the lurch" or "tranny shunt"

It turns out the issue is (i hope) software related and early D3's had an upgrade.

The question does anyone know a supplier in Perth that could review my D3 software and ensure that all updates have been carried out , and can do it properly and update if required

I would greatly appreciate any direction as this the only issue that spoils my vehicle

Many thanks

Max

I'd be talking with Kevin at Jordan Rover Tech in Bentley (9350 5633). ;)

Hi Max
I had a series of incidents recently that sound similar although they present under a different set of circumstances. During a recent trip to the Vic High Country I was driving most of the time in low range Command Shift mode. My lurching occurred when in third gear however I was also getting a Transmission Fault message coming up. Checking the fault codes I found I was getting "P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off". I haven't had a chance to get it checked out yet. Gear changes work faultlessly in high range and other low range gears. My transmission was completely rebuild just over a year ago by an Indy in Sydney. I'll check what software revision I'm running.
Cheers

Issues with the ZF 6HP26 are well known, the box has been around a long time and used on many vehicles, the ford Falcon (well the one tonners atleast) use it.

I'd also suggest taking it to Rovertech.

Hi Maxy333,
I wouldn't discount not taking your vehicle to Southerns, I have taken my vehicles therefor diagnostic assistance and been very pleasantly surprised, yes it costs like $80 to connect up and get a diagnosis it depends on how badly you want to resolve the issue.
The service guy there is a guy called Rory, a really nice young man, very helpful and a real LR whizz. If Southerns can't tell you if you haven't got the right software installed and or at least give you an insight into your issue its a very sad place. Don't have the same comments to make about Barbagallos.

Cheers Marty
