take cans...they wont pop their tops...
you need to wrap them to stop them from rubbing against each other
and wearing through the can......
or just carry the contents of the cans in your stomach.....

sort of defeats the purpose zook,,
when you arrive
you'd then have to regurgatate them back into the empty cans,,
wait till their cold
then drink them again
and you know how i hate waiting for tinnies to get cold

Carry cans, wrap them with a rubber band to stop them rubbing together, and if they got a good shake up on the trip, flick the bottom of the can with your finger a couple of times before opening! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Well I'm guessing you're a keen beer drinker.
So
The solution is simple.
Go the keg.
Can of CO2 and the keg.
With some fittings you can probably use the CO2 to fast inflate your tyres too.
It might take up a bit more space, but doing double duty the setup will earn it.
Bring it on style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Take cans because they can be compacted when empty so you have less volume of rubish to cart out.
Tried and tested.
Stack the cartons on their sides.
That way the cans rotate and the wear spreads around the can rather than wearing in one place.
Cheers.

Cans also cool down quicker when you stick them in the fridge (and pack better).

If the cans are rubbing through then it means two things aren't right 8O
1) You are driving too fast style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif
and
2) Your drinking too SLOW  style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
I also hear that the shrink wrapped slabs are better as everything is held together better and doesn't move as much, plus if one does pop you can still drink the remains that is saved by the plastic wrap

I always take cans away camping, mainly they're a bit lighter to carry out, take up less space (once squashed to the ****house). I prefer bottles to drink out of, but you can't have verything.
And don't take VB (very bad). Plus you need to drink faster, if UI bring beer home that's not good enough for me style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

When out camping we have various selections of refreshment available split into various catagories:
1) working beers : working beers are the beers you have with your sandwich in a lay over on the road or the first beer you have when stopped and setting up camp. We normally use cans of Emu Bitter for this job, of the "quantity beers" you have one after the other sitting in the water at Barnett Gorge. Can are good as said above and while they lose their paint I have yet had one wear all the way through. They passed the Mitchell Plateau/Defender suspension test they should pass anything.
2) official beers: these beers come in bottles and are the beers we have with the cheese and nibbles right after the camp is set up , the fire is lit and the water for the womens washing bucket is heating. I use Little Creatures Pale Ale for official beers though another mate is very partial to the James Squires. Another mate keeps it simple and goes the Heineken or Becks - whatever is on special. Warning: with the up market pale ales, do not drink them out of their bottles, even though you are camping and it is a nuisance you will be rewarded if you pour into a glass. Bouquet and flavour opens right up. I buy a particular brand of jam which come in glasses. They travel wrapped in newspaper and I don;t mind breaking them. Yes it is a p.i.a. but everyone agrees that the flavour of the beer is greatly enhanced.
3) wine: it's meal time, the women have had their ablutions, the lids is being lifted on the camp ovens and it's smelling ready. Rice is bloiling away. Plates have been laid out. Time to pull the cork on a Vasse Felix Classic Dry Red or Theatre Red (latter only from cellar door). We have been knowe to carry some Voyager Estate. White wines are made available too to those who need them. You are allowed to have both and to keep having them until your swag jumps up and drags you away from the fire into the darkness.
VB is too sweet, espially for outdoors and you can do better.

Well, funny you should mention that, Seg. It is not unknown for camping partners to rip the lid off a quick EB to drink while they are waiting for me to unpack the glassware, unwrap carefully decant etc etc.. :?

Alas Hannan's is no longer with us. I can't remember how it tasted, you were probably right.
As to drinking what you can I can't recall many beers tasting better than the XXXX Gold I inhaled after a day in the cattle yards at Victoria River Downs.
