Just found another series landrover.
In xray department yesterday, with the new Classic Landrover mag.
Opposite a guy I knew who has farms behind where I work.
' You into Landrovers ' got rid of one back awhile.
A bit more chat and it turned out to be my first one Gilbert, but her couldn't give me any more history on my series 3.
' I have another out the back if you what to come and have a look, bit earlier I think.
Knowing what he sold Gilbert for, recon I would get the other for a carton of beer. :)
Keep you posted.

Well its a series 2 SWB soft top.no canvas.
Rear spring hanger rusty, so can't get a number.
Can't find any other numbers, except a small Leyland square plate near the gear lever plate inside on firewall. Would this plate with 2sets of numbers, shed any light on year.
Parked up paddock basher.looks like some sort of SU carby maybe. No air cleaner.
Looks like some kind of tar, sprayed around the underside bonnet and engine bay.
But do I need another ???? Just have to see how many cartons it cost me.

If it has a Leyland plate it must be later than 1967 when Rover merged with Leyland, probably several years later, as I doubt they got their labelling changed immediately in Australia. (assuming the bit with the label is original to the vehicle!)

And on a 2a the 'gear lever' plate has the chassis number stamped on it near the top.

Series 2 - 1958-61

Series 2a - 1961-71

Series 3 - 1971 - 1983 (but production of the 88 continued until the 90 was in production, and a few were produced up to the end of the 90s.

Changeover date in each case was always (I think), the UK summer holidays, but some time later for Australian assembled vehicles, I think in some cases even into the next year. And arrival of the new model at dealers could have been a bit later again.

The only real design change from Series 2 to 2a was the diesel engine increased from 2.0 to 2.25, and there were more obvious changes through the remainder of the 2a production.

Series 2a to 3 showed more obvious changes, particularly the instrument panel moving from the centre to in front of the driver, and a padded dash, but again, there were a lot of changes through the rest of the Series 3 production.

Took SU carby off the S2 and added it to my other series 3.
Got hold of some silicone hoses and som 2inch exhaust pipe.
Here is the finished set up, using original linkages.
