42250 steering box gasket. Is this a cork or paper gasket? Existing seal is leaking so hoping to rectify. Will blue silicon gasket be ok?
Also, can I find a new rubber hand brake gaiter/boot available, and if so what is the part number?
Does anyone have a parts catalogue on file for the 1956 86 ?
Thx,

I would guess a paper type gasket (probably fairly thick).
Personally I wouldn't use silicon I'd use a paper gasket & Permatex No2.
42250 - Gasket for Steering Box Side 1948 - 55 80 and 86 Inch (http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/series/series-1/42250-gasket-for-steering-box-side-1948-55-80-and-86-inch.html)
You could buy some gasket paper and cut out your own gasket.
Rubber gaiters are available

Problem is that the rubber quality is sometimes dubious. They can decompose within a few years.

not cork but heavy paper, most ones online now are to suit the slightly later box (the early ones kept cracking). make sure you seal the cover bolts (actually all the fixings) with a decent gasket goo (like Peps goo or Permatex aviation gasket) or all your oil will run out along the threads:) and if you have it fully apart then replace all the balls while you're at it (just dont buy any in the blue bags - get japan quality from reputable local bearing shop)
