May be a Stage 1 Series 3 ....the drum brakes would be a clue. But definitely not a Defender.

Series 3 stage 1?
Looks to me that there be leaf springs under there.

No. It looks like a Land Rover Series III V8 - commonly called a Stage 1.
Note the sliding windows on the doors, the Series (and County) door handles, the square bottom edge to the windows either side of the rear door. Counties and later models have rounded bottoms to those windows.
Also note the surrounds to the headlights.
Also the Defender wasn't sold in Australia with a V8, only the 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engines.
It is NOT a Defender.

Series 3 Stage 1 V8.
The windsreen is the giveaway, early 110 Counties did have rear drums.
DEFINATELY NOT A DEFENDER.

Absolutely concur, stage 1 series 3, drums springs & roof ribs on outside not inside (changed with County to inside), year date on compliance plate would give it away after '84 would be County.

G'day ntguy style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Sure looks like a Series 3 or Series 3/Stage 1 V8 to me, Stage 1 was the first Landrover fitted with Constant 4 wheel drive by using a Range Rover G/box and a type of CV joints in the front axle, Going by the location of the vehicle and that it has rust, is unregistered, (NO MOT) I would guess that it has seen a fair bit of beach work (Moreton Island, Stradbroke island) and could need extensive repairs, I know of a pretty clean 1980 Series 3, 2door H/top, 4cylinder on GAS, engine has done 4k since total rebuild by VERY good mechanic, the owners are going to Ireland for a year or two, they are school teachers, price for that is $5k neg a little.

I know of a 1984 V8 County - think V8 Defender - for sale for a similar price.
Mine.
I'm in western Sydney.

Definitely a Stage 1 Series 3 - given away by:- no flares on mudguards, leaf springs, rear crossmember, heater intake, grille, divided windscreen, two hinge rear door, sliding door windows with vertical join (very early 110 had sliding windows, but with the join parallel to the front edge).
Also, but not really relevant, no Defenders had lift door handles, although pre-Defender 110s did.

Did you notice that the Tomb Raider Defender used in the movie did have lift door handles. I think they are still used when the two-piece door (like the Sereis LR) is specified. You'll note that Larta Croft's Defender doesn't have door tops.

You're right of course - see the Wolf military Defender (Although I am not absolutely sure it is called a Defender?)
I thought of this after I pressed the "submit" button, but hoped nobody would notice.

Yes... it is actually Stage 1 (1980late to 1984) with Range Rover running gear with Rover V8 petrol or Iszuz 3.9 diesel, all drums brake and leaf springs.
Came out in 4 models (I think) Chassic cab
Truck cab
Panel van
Station wagon
Not a Defender...

It does now. I wrote to him and gave him he same info that I wrote in the second post to this thread.
Note my words "Land Rover Series III V8 - commonly called a Stage 1"
Note his words "Series III V8 - commonly called a Stage 1"
He replied and said he'd fix the listing which he has now done.
