Alarming behaviour

Yeh, alright, a corny title...

The missus's D3's alarm has started going off for no apparent reason.

Anyone else experienced the issue? Any suggestions what to look for?

Usually the bonnet switch. Plenty of threads, have a search for that.

Mine started doing that a while ago too. Then we started getting bonnet open messages on the dash display when driving - bonnet clearly shut however. In the end I removed the switch, cut a paper clip and inserted it into the plug and taped up. I was going to replace the bonnet switch, but honestly I dont really see the great need to have it fixed and working again

The paperclip bypass will tell you for sure if the bonnet switch is the culprit. There is an updated bonnet catch/sensor part which is vastly superior to the old one.

If the paperclip doesn't do the trick, your LR dealer will be able to read the alarm trigger history.

Check also the door locks. Quite common for them to fail and not actually lock when you lock the doors / arm the alarm. They sound like they lock and fail randomly. Usually a kid goes to the car to open the door and get in and sets off the alarm.

The bonnet problem I think only creates the warning honk when you try and lock the car as when there is a door ajar.

When this happened to me, I did a Hard Reset and the problem was fixed and has not reoccurred.

I had the same problem. Had one of the bonnet catches replaced (about $70 fitted IIRC) and haven't had the problem since.

No I would think bonnet sensor. Mine went while under warranty on the D3, random alarms at all times of day and night. When put on diagnostics showed that the bonnet sensor was being triggered. Also the message centre displayed bonnet open when it was obvious on checking it was tightly closed.

Thanks to all...

It was, indeed, the bonnet switch. $34.00 and I swapped it our myself as the spanner twirler was clearing the fault code (showing it was the bonnet switch) and recoding the new key.

The missus lost her key was so was using mine. Given her track record for losing keys I wasn't happy only having one. That, however, ended up costing $450.00. :o

The bonnet catch is a regular offender, it's probably why LR have redesigned the part. Nice cheap fix as well!

Shame you aren't a bit closer, I could have saved you $200 on the key!
