View Full Version : Sydney Panel Beater - Defender

Ok so I've done a bit of research and turned up very little... I'm looking for recommendations of Sydney based panel beaters (or paint-less dent removers?) that sympathize with the Defender cause.
My Deefer was nudged while parked and sadly the culprit did a runner. Yep, it's a very little nudge - more annoying than anything!
I've had one quote and it's quite a bit more than I expected... so I'm keen to find a comparison price or two. Can anyone recommend somewhere that understands?
All suggestions appreciated!

Prestige auto salon,
68 South Street, Rydalmere.
I have found that they are very good.
They are currently replacing the roof of one of my 90's that has corrosion in it (warranty repair).
They have previously done other work on this 90, also warranty work as well and the work that they have done has always been of a very high standard.
They are Jaguar / Land Rover approved repairers too.
If you go there, see Matthew Sinai, he is a specialist in working on Defenders.....
Regards,
Mike.

Matt that is a difficult repair to do and painting/ blending will cost a fair amount.

Now that Caldwells are retired, my go-to is Corbans, who just moved from Hurstville to Peakhurst.
They are Land Rover approved (or at least were when my family was in the game).

I can second this Recommendation, they definitely know their Land Rovers. They have recently reinvested in new spray booths and are operating state of the art equipment.
Ha ha ha 😀 I think Mathew became a Defender expert after my last MY12 Defender went there under warranty. They stripped the whole car inside removed all panels sealed everything back up made it all water tight. My last truck was in there for almost 2 months. All factory rivets were supplied by Land Rover everything looked OME but better when I got it back.
I hope you are going through insurance as prestige won't be cheap but I can guarantee it will be the best work you will be able to find. I wouldn't let my truck go anywhere else. ✅✅✅

These guys in Gladesville did a great job fixing the roof on my Deefer when the roof racks crashed and put some nice holes up top.

...perhaps I forgot to mention I'm a tight-ar$e... I hadn't planned to use insurance but I'm now beginning to reconsider!
Got to ask the question - what's the 'corrosion in the roof' story??

Paint is bubbling and coming off around the alpine Windows, the seals on the alpine Windows were replaced by the Land Rover dealers workshop at Parramatta (or one of their contractors) under warranty as they had split and were leaking....
A few months after that, the paint started to bubble up and corrosion started to come through.
The replacement alpine window seals split and leaked shortly after that, every time that my 90 went to that dealerships workshop for repairs, it came back worse.... And often with other added problems....
Also the sealing seam between the front sloping roof and the rear roof was leaking on both sides.
Also the roof gutter at the front right side just near where the windscreen adjoins was leaking very badly, the paint was coming off too.
The roof was looking like a banana when viewed from side on, when originally installed at the factory, the side panels where not fastened properly and were loose allowing the roof sides to bow out...
The Puma (TDCi) roofs are nowhere near as well constructed as the earlier roofs were, the earlier 90,110, etc, had galvanised roof gutters giving better strength and shape to them.
If your Defender is still in warranty, check for corrosion and seam leaks on it, I think that the body has a 5 year corrosion warranty on it (only as long as the yearly corrosion check has been done by an authorised Land Rover place).
Another place to check for corrosion is on the window blocks (that hold the base of the windscreen onto the firewall), the newer alloys that are used quite often corrode right through or crack completely through...
Galvanic reaction and electrolytic corrosion on defenders is a bitch, If attaching anything made of dissimilar metals on your Defender, try and use a barrier like duralac (a anti-corrosive jointing compound) between the dissimilar metals.
