Hi,
I am having a crack at keeping my 1997 P38 in good working and reliable order without having to go to the mechanic whenever the EAS plays up.
I have installed an EAS bypass system with the ballcock valves from Airbagman which has got me up and driving again. The valve block is now isolated from the airbags.
To stop the compressor running unnecessarily
Firstly Should I disable the EAS system by pulling the driver relay under the passenger seat?
and should I unplug the compressor in the EAS box?

I hope this makes sense
Thanks Tim

Tim, I fitted a switch to turn the EAS off which turns the compressor off as well. I had fitted the automatic system suggested by Stefan Lindgren at Range Rover P38 EAS modifications improvements and tips learned by experience by ownership. (http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/eas-modification.html) but, in the end, I pulled the relay out and just used a switch.

Why? Because the system would dump all the air on start and drop the car to the bumpstops.

Note that page is only for a Thor model. The GEMS is different. I wrote a GEMS page with pics for Stefan. He had it up for a while but has since taken it down. Not sure why. I've probably still got my version here somewhere.

Thanks Ron,
The link will be helpful and hopefully increase my EAS knowledge. My car doesn't drop down with the bypass system in use (yet) so I am thinking/hoping that the airbags and lines are not leaking. I will now look elsewhere for problems.
It seems I have opened a big can of EAS worms.

If it's misbehaving, I'd put my left nut on it being the driver unit.

First thing I'll ever replace on mine if the EAS ever starts doing weird things... They are getting to that age where circuitry that gets regular heat/cool cycles (such as this) will be beginning to show its age...

Driver unit!

Cheers

The driver unit replacement looks a bit intimidating but I will try a few fault clearings and drive around to make sure there are no airbag leaks for a few days first.
