I think he has nailed it. Yes you can get 18's yes you could put in rods etc to get you high clearance over 50kph. In terms of unmodified vehicles it is the best combo on road/offroader in the world. In terms of best stock off road touring vehicle the Defender would take that (from the LR stable). I like Andrew's vids - highly experienced offroad driver and doco maker. He is currently doing the final cuts on the Canning Stock Route which will be great. Unfortunately he is using a modded Yota for that but he is clearly very impressed with D4.

He upset the Pajero fraternity pretty badly! Was funny to observe.
I think his comment on the L320 RRS was "why bother?".

Yep but I agree re Pajero and RRS. I feel the same way...why not just go RR or D4?

He was definitely right about the Paj.
The RRS? Great question. Cheapest way into a "Range Rover"? We didn't have the budget or want the bulk of a Vogue or the height of a Disco.
I have to say our 2010 RRS, while not a revelation on road compared to our previous 2010 D4, is definitely incrementally sharper (especially with paddles) while still having 95% of the offroad capability, and it's different enough in the cabin to feel more cosseting and a bit spesh, like a Range Rover.
I also really wanted a TDV8... *drool* :)

I agree with Stuart's comments re the RRS, plus you can get more off road mods for the RRS than the RRV, plus if its just the 2 of you (like us) you dont really need the extra room of a bigger car.

+1 Interesting what he did with tyre pressures on the Baboons Pass vid - upped them to 3 bar (~43psi), and not lowered which would be conventional wisdom I would have thought.

Yep agreed. Lowering allows tyre to deform around rocks and afford more grip and reduce likely impact damage on belts but i guess with the TCS and such a small amount of tyre between rim and rock he might have thought better to keep max distance between the 2 and rely on the tcs.
Cheers
