Hi,

I'm sure that this has been asked and answered 100 times before, but I'm after some tire advice please.

I have a 4.6 V8 Discovery 2a with a 2" lift, which came with 18" rims and 275/65R18 tires.

I have ditched the 18" rims in favour of some 16" rims that I got second hand and now want to replace the tires.

I've found that since replacing the 18" rims and what are essentially 32" tires with the 16" and with a standard diameter tire that the car drives a hell of a lot better and that the fuel economy had improved.

So I'm looking for recomendations for good 30" all terrain tire size and make recommendations.

Am currently toying with BFG All Terrain KO's in 255/70R16, but am looking for opinions and alternatives. Especially if I can find something of a similar quality for a reduced price.

I do a fair amount of off road work, but it's nearly all sand driving as I live near the beach and really only go off road to get to good fishing spots and a small bit of recreational off roading.

Many thanks in advance

Mr Simon.

The Toyo open country at2 would be a cheaper quality equivalent , good deals in wangara on them , I think that size is $230 , I was looking on Gumtree for some 265/75/16 for mine.
Otherwise a bridgestone d694 are a good tyre.

Cooper Discoverer At3 255/70/16 on mine now and i'm very pleased with them, i used these http://www.ebay.com/itm/201065257782?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and the ride is smooth without any balancing

I haven't compared the rest, I don't think you'll ever find anyone who has compared them all, but I have been very very happy with my BFG AT. I won't try anything else next tyre change. On wet bitumen they have gripped one corners and at speeds that they probably shouldn't have still been and offroad I would have to step up to an MT if I wanted more. The new revision looks great and much more aggressive with the side wall grip.

After recently trawling this same topic for hours on here I came to the conclusion that 245/75/16 was a good all round tyre size. This equates to approximately 30.5" diameter and throws the speedo out by about 5%. I'm currently running around on Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in the said size on P38 rims on my D2a and am very impressed. I think they are quiet enough on the black top, considering the tread pattern, and perform well off road.

I like the idea of the narrower tire with a taller profile. Much better for the sand driving that I do.
