RRC Starters and Water Proofing

Last weekend we went on a trail day with the LROCV and saw first hand how Lucas electrics and water do not mix.

I've seen a few tips on how to shield/water resist the distributor, plug leads and coil, but what about the starter motor?

One the experienced club members who has owned numerous RRs, said that the Classics suffered from getting mud and water in the starter and not working well.

This certainly seemed to happen to on on our trip.

Has any one come up with a good work around for this (apart from keeping out of water)????

drill a pilot hole in the starter, the dizzy cap the winch motor and gearbox, as well as the bell housing.

one hose in each up to a manifold (put the diff breathers up to this as well as the gearbox and tcase breathers) then put a blower style matress inflator on the end of the manifold. turn it on and you now have positve pressure ventilation on all your usual suspect components.

takes about 3 hours to do a vehicle including having to unbolt the starter to drill the holes and plumb the vent of the blower into the air inlet trunk after the air filter.
