I got the new NBN SkyMuster satellite internet installed just over a month ago. A significant improvement over the previous interim satellite, but compared to most internet services, crippled by the very restrictive "Fair Use Policy" that NBN have imposed. In day to day use, comparable to a good ADSL service (not ADSL2+).

However, it was completely unavailable from about 6pm Thursday until this morning. Not a good look. (NBN problem, not the ISP)

Yes, and it performs a lot better (when its working) than the previous service - about the same as you probably had in town ten years ago.

As far as I can tell from the bits and pieces of information I have been able to glean since getting back on line, the supplier that provides the software that says who can connect updated their software, and the software then did not allow reconnection if the modem got switched off. Two attempts to rectify it apparently failed - at least when I got back on line there were two emails at different times on Saturday saying it had been fixed, but it now seems to have been fixed (fingers crossed). I suspect they may have rolled back the software update, so we may have a rerun in a few days when they think they have fixed the problem again!

I don't know how many new satellites are being launched but there's something like 12 rocket launches around the world yesterday/today.

One assumes they are pushing satellites into orbit......

Maybe not for our nbn though.....they would be penny skyrockets.

If anyone is interested, I recorded an interview today for ABC radio. It is supposed to go to air some time tomorrow between 0830 and 1000 tomorrow 15/6 on Western plains local radio. It is streamed live at https://radio.abc.net.au/stations/local_westernplains/live?play=true
if you are not in the broadcast area.
