IFS and CV joints

Hi Guys,

well 9 days till we head off to the Simpson.

So here are some optional parts we have been recommended to take, My service centre shop. Said i don't need them, i don't really understand what they are.

If your vehicle has IFS and CV joints in the front you won't require universals for the front.

What the........ i have a 02 Defender. is the above part something i can buy and take as a spare and how big is it.

Defender are a live axle set up so not IFS(indipendant front suspension).
Take a spare drive flange(the bit the conects the axle shaft to the hub), they are the same in each corner so you'll only need 1 for "just in case".

Is the suggested item from a tag along tour provider?

Your service shop is of major concern....

If they don't know what front end the Defender has - find another workshop ASAP.

If your 02 Defender is in good order it won't be a problem... Stick fuel it in and go... The desert isn't that remote.

CV, constantly velocity joint.....you still have these fitted, like you mechanic stars you shouldn't need them. The CV allows you to turn and still have drive to the front wheels.

It would be interesting to see the complete list given its more than likely to be generic covering a range of vehicles.

Ok struggled to understand your first post.

I take it this is a list for a Tag Along?

Yeah it is, that was the last thing on the list of optional parts to bring

I would agree with your service centre, you don't need to bring spare CV's. You'd be pretty unlucky to break one in the desert, and if you did it probably would have been broken before you left.
