It really blew me away. Firstly the Jeep didn't look all that stuck, I'm sure a bit of spadework, lowering of pressures etc would have sorted it.

First dumb idea was to stick the nose into the water.

But the next idea, to DRAG THE CAR THROUGH....THROUGH!!!!!! the frozen lake just beggars belief.

Once it had spun 90deg, they could have secured it with another vehicle, disconnected the winch, chucked in a snatch block, and winch it rearwards till they could run it down backwards in low.
