Sustained some cosmetic damage to the paint on the Compomotive rim.
Not overly concerned but would like to touch-up or repair if possible.

No idea what type of paint it is and/or options to touch-up.
I know you can get paint pens for vehicle paint but would the same thing work on the wheels?

Cheers,
Scott

Scott,

Unfortunately I think that's beyond just a bit of a paint touch up.

Not sure what side of Brissie you are, but Dr Wheels (http://www.drwheels.com.au) at Yatala did an exceptional job on my daughter's Golf when she kerbed it in a big way.

You're probably right, one spot is down to the alloy surface but the alloy seems unharmed.
I'll look into Dr Wheels. I thought a touch-up might be an ok temporary measure as this is likely to happen again.

At least it was from a real rock on a track.:)

The cosmetic surface wouldn't worry me quite so much, but it looks like you've caught the edge of the rim (just below the L on the upper left of the picture), and left a sharp/rough bit. This could damage your tyre side wall.

Have you been in touch with Gordon or Compomotive to get the color code? There are some spray packs for various manufacturer's. This is for the "Standard" LR finish.

Good idea, here's the answer I got from Compomotive UK:
"The colour code is a Land Rover paint called Bonatti Grey"

Scott

Yeah I went through this a while ago, had some Bonatti Grey mixed up and it was not even close, apparently it is a very old colour, in the end just took the spare into a crash repairer and asked them to colour match it, got a little jar of paint, cost $30. The problem is it is solvent based thinners and so has a short shelf life. Asked the guy for the formula but he told me he just mixed it and paid no attention to how much of what, but it was spot on.

On the other side, whats wrong with LR?? not selling paint pens or touch up pots for standard wheel colours :(

Well here is the final diy repair ....

The colour match is actually quite good but it is impossible to achieve the finish sheen already on the wheel (except professionally).
Plus the gouges made for a rough surface to start with even with some sanding.

I am happy with the result, it's difficult to see from any reasonable distance.
I figure that something similar could easily reoccur, so didn't pursue the professional repair at this stage.

I got these little paint pots from a small specialty paint shop at Ormeau but they do have an eBay shop as well.

No trouble at all to mix up any Land Rover colour (and every other make as well).
They also supply aerosol cans of paint to either 1K or 2K spec. I was advised that 2K is as good as the factory paint and 1K just has less hardener.

The little pots are only 1K. I also got one in Nara Bronze just in case and a clear coat one.

Oh and Bonatti Grey actually had three variants in their system and we actually took sample chips out to the vehicle.
I selected the "standard" version as the closest match but no idea why there was variants.

I'll insist on better wheel placement spotting next time :p

Cheers,
Scott

Scott.
There must be different Bonatti greys used by Compomotive.Im Albany we had 3 white D4s with GOE wheels, one had black, they dint look as good, the other 2 were grey, definately a much different shade between the 2,quite different.

Lindsay saw my GOE wheels for the first time last week.He said they were fake Compomotive wheels, they make wheels for race cars not Land Rovers.
I assured him they were genuine,he looks at me and said "Dad you get paid way too much":):):):):):):)
He is into motorsport so knows Compomotive wheels:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

That's interesting. I've just emailed my Compomotive contact to ask about possible shade changes. Glad mine matched ok.

When I got a Metallic green spray can mixed for our Defender Xtreme there were 3 versions of the same colour on their computer, the age listing was the only saviour that day as I didnt have it with me,colour match was very good. One date was too old the other too young from memory.
I think my genuine Landrover touch up kit for the D4 was about $38 for the base and clear, much less quantity.

Andrew, you are 100% correct. Here are a few comments extracted from an email exchange I've just had with Compomotive in the UK.

"Yes in the 8 years that this rim has been in production the grey paint used has changed 3 times due to supply issues with the paint co etc
... seems like there are several shades of the same colour ... early production of this rim was not in this (Bonatti) shade of grey? more a generic grey powder paint."

When I asked about the 8 year production mentioned, he advised:
"The rim was originally developed for the Bowler Nemesis Rally Raid vehicle"

Possible inspiration for the Evoque? :p

I quite like that my wheels have this kind of heritage ....

Can I suggest 'Touch Up Guys', my son has the franchise in Darwin and not only do they do an outstanding job but they come to you. They're all over the country so shouldn't be hard to find.
