Defender in for a warranty job, I took a Loan car and they gave me a brand new Evoque, Not too disappointed with that, but then the warranty job went from a few days to a week.
Now the horror part.

Drove to the airport with the Evoque, and parked it. I flew interstate for the day. Returned to the airport and key is not in my pocket

The only good news is that I did sign the excess waiver.

Im afraid its going to cost me a fortune.
Apart from finding the key, and Ive sent messages, how can I avoid the costs.

Im letting the dealer know the bad news tomorrow.

You should have asked for the keyless entry version. ;)

Hang on! Are you asking how you can avoid responsibility for losing a key fob? [emoji6]

That will totally be dependent on how the dealers service guy is feeling I would suggest.

Found them at Adelaide airport in the lost property section :D

Moral of the story
Treat keys with respect. I'm think of buying a few of these (http://opusdesign.com.au/products/orbit-the-key-finder?gclid=CjwKEAjwy6O7BRDzm-Tdub6ZiSASJADPNzYrN7WDj3KnGwJMp0r2KO1QEOM6n9x9svBh FvRJhT7VUxoCQp3w_wcB#) or these (http://www.pebblebee.com.au/tracker/)

i.e. keys, wallet, phone, laptop, beer bottle

Don't go then, go with TrackR. Has cloud tracking so if something is lost you tell the server and then anyone who walks by your missing TrackR is an antenna - they don't know they did it but you get an alert with a location..

I have Wallet, Bike keys, Car keys, Shed Keys
Emma has one in her Purse and one on her Keys

I also have one hidden in each vehicle, Camper and the motorbike...
If they are stolen and drive by someone who is also a TrackR user I get the info.. There's a huge network out there.

They're brilliant!!!

Don't go then, go with TrackR. ....

I just did a bit of research and chose Pebble Bee. Just 10 mins ago, ordered a 6 pack. I'll post a review in a few weeks.
Some of the review sites heavily bagged the TrackR (*seems like complaints on facebook are deleted by them).
Tile, another product with similar features to TrackR looked promising, but didnt have replaceable battery.
I dont know if Pebble Bee is better or worse than the others, but I chose it because it had a loud alarm (my ears are stuffed because of long term motorbike riding).

Hi,
Put your mobile phone number on a key tag. That has worked a few times for us - even when it was not realised they were lost.
Cheers

That's the joy of the trackers. If you put seperate on alarms on your phone and the item the tag is on start letting you know..

It's like electronic separation anxiety.

Like you I rejected Tile because of its sealed nature (EOL change over costs).

The benefit of Tile and TrackR is their global network.

Even leaving them at Adelaide Airport you would have been advised of their location in the app on your phone.

The crowd functionality of the big players was a key driver for me.

Here's the coverage in Australia at the moment - remember these points "move" - every phone running the applications is a continual search beacon...

I'm interested to hear your experiences of the unit you have chosen in a few months... Although now you're likely to never misplace anything again!

Your lucky. To replace a lost key at my work is a minimum $400 and that's for one key and programming. More if you don't have a second key or the electronic key code. Takes a week or so to come from overseas as well.

On the device itself or the phone?

The devices last over 12 months. And the batteries are about $4.50 for 10
