Info from anyone who has done the 4.6 upgrade would be handy.

I have ordered a 4.6 top hat long motor from Triumph Rovers Spares which is being build at the moment.
Just wondering from anyone who has done this change, is there any tips or tricks?
We are going to do the change ourselves as the Canberra rover mechanic does not instil confidence and wanted to charge 3k to change a long motor wtf!
So it appears reasonably easy to remove the old 4.0 from the rave manual (will see how we go) but any tips would be greatly appreciated. We have engine hoist etc and Hawkeye computer for diagnostics.

Thanks in advance, Cheers Chris

Not a trick but a tip. Replace whole cooling system if not done so recently including rad and new cooler than stock thermostat. New coil packs and leads and NGK Double Platinum plugs assuming no LPG. Flush heater matrix out. Replace engine mounts if not done recently. You will love the grunt. Cheers

Engine will never reach its full potential running on a 4L fuel map,,
Ensure your cooling system is correct before startup,, running in that new cam is important.

Lots of stuff about building the engine in here, not so much about changing them over,,

use studs and MLS head gaskets at 100lb.
glue everything.

Thanks, I was going to do pretty much everything you listed except the coil packs but might as well do them as they have done 185k. No LPG.
Looking forward to the extra power. Will also get the computer upgraded once all running.

Thanks Pedro, yeah was gong to get the computer done.
Running in the new cam before startup?
I have been looking through lots of posts but didn't find much about changing over, so thought I would ask.

No,, AT startup,, I am quite horrified at the thought of running a cam in,, - "first start rev to 2K for 15mins",, means everything must be right first time,, cooling, rockers, valves, sealant!! :o

glad I wasnt there,,,:p

That's what they said we will need to do, hopefully we get it right 😬

Done it heaps of times. At 1 point I had 3 different cams and follower sets for the falcon 6 :) Ran them all in 1 weekend. Not really practical, but hey being young (and stupid ?) helps :D Just have to make sure all the proper lubing is done and valve tolerances are correct, very very very important!
