The title says it all, I pull the bonnet release and nothing happens. The bonnet isn't jambed - I've tried jiggling it while a second person pulls on the cable, I can feel play in the bonnet latch as I push the bonnet down and let it go.
It's never been tight or even looked like not opening before.
Anyone know how to get to the bonnet latch with the least amount of butchering?
Cheers - Gav.

even with the bonnet down, you should be able to get the flat blade screwdriver into the grille shell tab locks and lift them up, then slide the grille out.
et voila.

I can't get the grille out without the bonnet being up. It's an early 86 model with the older style steel grille - there are 4 screws that come out from the top - under the bonnet.
Here's a pic.

G`day Gav,
ours has 16 slots in the grille from the drive side 7 slots across and up in behind is where the arm is , which puts it near the first E on ours .
The arm and latch move to the drive side to release , ours being an auto has the top part of the cooler ring in the way so i can`t feel it but yours being manual may be clear , should be able to locate the cable wire .
If yours isn`t 16 slot i can measure across .
edit
Drive side , it`s 36cm from the edge of the grille to the arm .
The latch is central

Success!
I had a grope around under there before but didn't find anything - yep, mines a 16 slot grille, and sure enough at slot 7 I found the cable. I got my Son to pull on the handle and I just gave it a bit more with a screwdriver and she popped open. :)
Thanks heaps Peter. :)

No damage. :)
It only needed a slight extra stretch and it clicked open. Just need to tighten the cable up now, I just won;t latch the bonnet until I sort this - hopefully tomorrow if it doenst rain.
