Hi Guys

In the not too distant future I think I will retrofit some of the My14+ headlights with the signature strip but before I start I want to get a understanding of the behaviour in the following instances.

The questions below are specific to the signature strip aspect (LED U-shape line)

1) do they illuminate when the car is first unlocked?
2) do they stay illuminated for a period when the car is turned off?
3) assuming you use auto headlights - is there a change in brightness when night falls and the headlights come on?
4) with car on manual - parking lights only - are they on?
5) under what circumstances does the round DRL come on?

Btw. I know they dim for indication and assume they are off when car is manually set to no lights.

Has anyone on here done it yet? I have the wiring diagram from when i did it with my freel2 so I'm assuming it will be similar?

Thanks

I believe the behavior of the MY14+ halogen DRL (Bulb not LED) that I have is the same, just the type of DRL is different ....

1) do they illuminate when the car is first unlocked? YES
2) do they stay illuminated for a period when the car is turned off? YES
3) assuming you use auto headlights - is there a change in brightness when night falls and the headlights come on? YES
4) with car on manual - parking lights only - are they on? YES at the dim level
5) under what circumstances does the round DRL come on? These are indicators for the Xenon with signature LED and are only DRL for the halogen like mine
6) I know they dim for indication and assume they are off when car is manually set to no lights. NO still on for mine, which is a bit odd. You'd assume off would be all lights off.

Where are you sourcing the lights from Luke?
I am considering this upgrade and understand it is plug-and-play for mine (MY14) with a CCF edit to enable the xenons.

Cheers,
Scott

I'm confused, what lights do you have at the moment SCott?
Do you have a pic?

MY14 halogen with bulb DRL.
The behaviour of MY14+ Xenon with LED DRL is the same as mine, which is what my father has.

Ah I see. We are talking about two different aspects of the light.

I'm not fussed about having the round DRL/bulb. I'm only after the U-shaped LED line - not sure which model it started on, maybe it was 2015 instead. Often referred to as the signature strip

I will most likely source it online from the UK.. However it's pretty expensive, even more so if you choose the xenon version.

Luke,

I don't think you can get the LED signature strip without xenon headlight but happy to stand corrected on that.
In any case, the behavior of the LED signature DRL is common with the bulb DRL, so hopefully your original questions are answered.

Here's a picture with positions explained as I understand it.

Xenon with LED signature DRL:
1 - LED strip u-shaped
2 - LED strip circle
3 - indicator
4 - not sure, parker I think

Halogen with bulb DRL:
1 - nothing
2 - nothing
3 - DRL bulb
4 - indicator

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott

Yep, you can definitely get the signature strip (1 and 2) in both halogen and xenon versions, they are for sale for $1000 and $2000 respectively for a pair on eBay, hoping to find it cheaper somewhere some how.

Also, I'm not confident that #3 becomes the indicator in the upgraded version, are you sure?

For cars that have it I suspect the behaviour for the signature strip will be as you described above for #3 and that the operation of the bulb (#3) will change to be something different but need someone in the know to confirm this? (If that is the case then yep it will be plug and play for you, lucky!)

No3 is definately the indicator on mine as Scotts pic details.

The DRL strip on mine goes to dim whilst no3 indicator is working.
I have a MY14 with bixenons and DRL.

My Dad has the same as Andrew (xenon with LED sig), hence why I mentioned earlier that the behavior of DRLs is the same regardless of bulb or LED and the change of indicator location.
Luke, keep me in the loop if you find anywhere cheaper ;)

The DRLs are bright,if the auto headlights havent activated at dusk you get flashed. They then cop a hi-beam plus fyrlyts return salvo:):):):):)

Thanks guys. I watched a YouTube vid before I saw your response and can see the indicator becomes #3 (sorry scott, I just thought it was odd they changed the wiring).

The signature strip dimming when night falls is the part I might struggle with when retrofitting them, I'm not sure how they would make it dim, yet.

Scott, will let you know.

If any members happen to be electrically minded and know what method LR uses to dim the Day-time signature lights when indicating/main beam comes on that would be useful?
