Puma will crank but not start. Immobilized?

Hi guys,


Scratching my head on this one. I seem to have immobilized my 2.2 Puma.


I was giving the engine bay a wipe down (not using any water), and had disconnected the ECU. After reconnecting it and closing everything up as usual, the 2.2 will crank over but won't start. I also can not hear the fuel pump priming like it normally does after clicking the key over 2 spots.


I believe I might have immobilized it, or somehow tripped the inertia switch which has cut off the fuel to the injectors. The keys work fine and I can lock/unlock the vehicle.


Any ideas on how to reset it? Do I need the EKA code or something?

Flat bed it to a dealer for a reboot,you really shouldn't dis-connect things like the ECU. Pat

Hi,
Had similar on my 2.4 Puma.
Found the solution in the owners manual under 'battery removal'.
I had accidently disconnected the battery and not done it as per the manual.

It involves ....

Windows up, everything off.
Key in, ign on 10 secs, ign off and disconnect negative terminal.

Naturally this needs some preparation, like battery compartment open and a loosened negative terminal.

Now the 2.2 may not have this feature, but check the manual and look for it.

Had the same issue with mine while looking for a wire to feed a low water system. Lock the vehicle with the fob , wait 4 minutes then unlock and try to start. That fixed mine. Best of luck.

Thanks lads. Combo of disconnecting the battery and resetting the inertia switch did the trick. All sorted!

Assuming you dont follow the listed procedure for battery disconnection in a 2.4
Is there a get-out-of-jail process?

Just remember that modern vehicles have software that picks up this type of thing,car thieves disconnect batteries to beat immobilisers so I'd suggest not doing it in the first place. I had to reboot my L322 because of this. Pat

Having scared myself silly with it not starting, (I knew about the procedure, but the disconnecting was not intended) I read the instructions, followed them verbatim, and much to my relief that fixed it.
