Just a quick question. Have a D4 that i have just had an prior to end of warranty insp c/o and the PCM has logged a fault P0195-00.I think that this is the oil temp sensor circuit, and the sensor forms part of the engine oil level sensor.Would the D4 brains trust be able to confirm this as it sounds like sump off to replace if it is the sensor, also what is the purpose of the sensor ?

Here is an extract I got from somewhere. Possibly Topix. Confirms the DTC; but I'll leave it up to others here with more knowledge to answer your question on function.
     P0195-00
Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit - No sub type information

 Oil contaminated or level incorrect
Harness failure - Oil level and temperature sensor circuits
Oil level and temperature sensor failure

Check the oil level is correct and the oil does not appear contaminated. Renew or top up oil as required
Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the sensor power and ground supplies for open circuit or short circuit to ground. Check the signal line for open circuit, short circuit to power, short circuit to ground, high resistance and intermittent connections. Repair harness as required. Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system clear all stored DTCs using the ?Diagnosis Menu? tab and retest
Check and install new engine oil level and temperature sensor as required

If the sensor is indeed faulty then yes, the sump has to be removed as the sensor is bolted to the bottom from the inside.
The fault code should first be attempted to be cleared to determine if it's permanent or not.

Thanks Graeme, will let the stealers sort it out,but was trying to figure out what is the purpose of the sensor.surely if it was measuring temp why is it part of the oil level sensor?
