Hello All,

I am looking at getting a compression tester to use on:

a 2.6 litre six cylinder Land Rover petrol motor and
a Holden 202 six cylinder petrol engine.
a 235 Chevrolet six cylinder petrol
a 216 Chevrolet six cylinder petrol, and
a Gold Comet six cylinder petrol engine - not sure of its capacity?

I had a quick glance on eBay and the compression testers - petrol range from $23.00 to $401.

What would you expect to pay for a decent quality compression tester that would last for a number of years. I do not like single use tools.

Can anyone make any recommendations as to what you have found to be a respectable compression tester that you are happy with using?

Kind Regards
Lionel

Lionel,
I have a Stanley brand compression tester which I got from SuperCheap, from memory it was under $60. It has the advantage of coming with a flexible hose (very useful for the rear cylinders on a V8 D1!) and fittings for both large and small plug holes. I've found it gives consistent readings and seems robust enough to go the distance.

I got an unbranded set from a local tool shop, and paid about $40 from what I remember. I bought a cheap set as I had expected it to be rarely used (and it's only been used once so far).

Came with about a dozen different fittings and hoses.

Thanks Alan and Dave,

Oh I go to eBay for my first port of call just to get an idea of what is available and its market price. It gives me some idea of what I am looking for locally ... :p

Kind Regards

I do the same Lionel. :D

In this case I wanted to see and feel the item before buying, and it cost me only a few bucks extra over the bay of e.
