View Full Version : Land Rover Vin Number info needed please

Hi There,

After much research trying to figure out what year my Series 1 was made in, I am at a loss. For some reason CALvin is saying my Series 1 is in fact a Series 2A but my build plate states that the vehicle was assembled in 1958 so I'm not entirely sure. If anyone has information regarding my Series 1's history, it would be appreciated. My vin number is 277600760even though CALvin says it is incorrect (this number is taken from the vin plate itself, it is also the same number from the chassis near the back left wheel) If you need photos please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you in advance :D

Pictures would defiantly help here.

Going by my workshop manual 277...... is a 109 series 2a Diesel, which is what Calvin is saying.

277600760 is a 1955 Series 1, 107" CKD, RHD.

Hi There,
I will pop pictures up asap. I have measured it and it is definitely a 107in and it is a petrol model so I'm confused now by CALvin, thank you anyways tho :D

This sounds right although the build plate says 1958 which I'm assuming is when it was assembled in Australia? Just confirming could it be built in England in 1955 and then assembled in Australia in 1958?

Oh DOH my series 1 107 chassis no 277601003, I believe 1956, so yours is earlier so 1955.

Wally/BSF made me think further;)
