Hi guys, does anyone have any decent, close up detail type pics of the steel piece that goes across the windscreen and holds the canvas roof down on our beloved S1's. Also, wouldn't mind a few pics of the other steel pieces from around the doors, that do the same thing. Thanks.

Mine doesn't have anything there and I'd like to have a go at folding my own pieces up, if possible.

80", 86" or 88"......

Have a look here Hood sticks - Series I - 86 (http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/our-models/series-i/series-i-86-88-1954-to-1958/hood-sticks.html)

Google 'Land Rover Series 1 hood stick photos' and you'll find a heap of photos.

Best of luck,

Colin

My series 1 has the tabs to hold the canvas as part of the windscreen frame, if the windscreen frame you have doesn't have the tabs, your frame would have been fitted to a vehicle with a hardtop, well that's my understanding of the S1, the S2/2A/3 have a detachable rail commonly called a 'sharks tooth', and I'm sure if I'm wrong some-one will correct me, cheers Dennis
ps here is an image of my S1 windscreen showing the tabs, you can clearly see they are part of the frame and not removable

That sounds reasonable, as my windscreen frame has 2 tabs on the top, at the back of the frame which I couldn't work out as well. Looks as if I might have a 'Bitsa', or is that normal for these early Landy's?

Hello from Bulawayo.

Our 1954 S1 had this same arrangement - hooks on the top of the window frame.

Cheers,

Certainly all 86/88 swb Series 1s have the tabs on top of the windscreen irrespective of whether they were a hardtop or soft top.

My Station Wagon has them.

I thought that was the case too Garry. My 88" was an ex Snowy vehicle, which I believe was a hardtop and it has the tabs for the soft top which I fitted.

These are the bits you need. The 107 and 109 truck cab windscreen frames don't have the shark teeth.

Thanks for that guys. Looks as if I don't have a series 1 86" windscreen then.
Here's mine, (the frame, not the photo bombing bird :D)

If you decide to get rid of that screen, hang on to those top corner brackets!
