when im driving and look to the left / forward the rear vision mirror is smack in the way of streets to my left front ,,
Im only 5/11 so not super tall ,, the seats dont go down as i can see ,,,
was thinking of removing the rear view mirror and just having the rear camera on when driving ,,,,

I cant seem to raise the mirror up so its not in line of sight ?

the mirror takes up a large area ,, did it need to be so big

I an thinking that i will get one from a ford and glue that up and ditch the compass that i dont need also ,,,,

Do you guys think it is in the way or just used to it >?

I tend to have a bit of a lower back slouch to see under it. I'm 5ft 10.5

You do sit high in these things. I have to stoop a bit to see under the roofline. I haven't noticed the mirror being in the way as I'm always looking over it.
A bit less height in the seat would be nice. Just an inch or two.

just 25 to 50 mm would make so much difference ,,
will look tomorrow see if i can find away to drop them <<
maybe turn the rail`s over ??

I'm 5/6 so no problem for me. I knew there was an advantage to being short...:-)

I'm 6ft 3 and honestly haven't noticed a problem with the mirror, I have electric seats though.
I do find I do look at the headlining though.

As the roof line of most vehicles have become lower over time, due to design changes etc., I have found that I have to bend my neck to look under the rear view mirrors. At work I drive various makes and models of vehicles and some of them you could hide a B-Double behind the "A" pillar. And then there is the difficulty of getting out of them after a several hour trip. You need to fold up like a "bunny" knife.
Possibly why I like driving my series 3 so much.

Cheers, Mick.

I haven't check, but maybe the electric auto dimming and compass mirrors are bigger than the poverty pack mirrors?

yeah, the electronic mirrors are a fair bit bigger than the standard 1s. I have noticed certian angles are worse but Im 5'8 so not a great prob. The A pillars on most new sedans are a helluva lot worse.

Visibility isn't something many complain about in a D2 :p
Never noticed it being a problem. If it is, I can duck my head.

You know I just get sooooo fatigued manually dipping the mirror, and my god turning the key to start is just so 20th century, and the handbrake just don't get me started . I mean the effort it takes to pull that heavy lever.

And don't ask when it comes to actually having to manually turn on those wipers.

The Question was <

does the rear vision mirror give you a blind spot to your left ?
,,
as only noticed when a car pulled out from the left and my wife asked did i not see him ,,, well no the stupid mirror makes a blind spot right where traffic from the left is <<<<

Now i dont use it ,, i just ripped it off ,,
Problem soled ,,as a truck driver i only use the side mirrors anyhow ,,,

I'm sorry you don't get it.
It was intended to be an amusing ironic response to the many perceived problems of D2 ownership vs the latest and greatest.
I am 188 cm or so and I don't really have a problem with the mirror but mine is the manual so may be smaller, and of course that is probably a partial solution to your problem, if you can live without the auto dipping.
Another solution is to perhaps lean the seat back a bit.
IMHO the benefits of the high driving position giving great view far outweigh any minor disadvantage like having to lean over to see traffic lights.
I can recall my swmbo reaction after sitting in a D4 of "don't like it I feel all closed in"

I tried the laying the seat back felt like a teenager ,,,
just one of those things that the maker feels we need ,, a big black piece of plastic in the way of on coming traffic <
I am utterly amazed it passed ADR ?

Anyhow have ripped it off the screen and wow what a view ,,,, ...

It does seem a problem for a few tho ?

Have to say I've never noticed it as an issue, so the answer to part of your question is, yes, I guess I got used to it. That said, it's a particularly useless thing. I only ever use the side mirrors, because one, I'm a truckie, and that's all you get, and two, all I can see in the centre mirror is the headrest on the back seat. Oh, and the compass. What a pointless thing that is. If I'm ever that lost I'll pull the one out of the glovebox. Or use my phone.

Driven a VE/VF Commodore? The pillars are awful. Try a Scania R series Prime Mover, You could miss the USS Nimitz in the blind spot at an intersection. Gotta look around it. ADR's only stipulate percentages.

I have a rear view camera ( to keep it legal )

And I'll bet now that it wouldn't pass a roadworthy check by an over zealous member of the constabulary

As far as I am aware, please don't quote me, discovery are classed as commercial and as such the rear windows can be blocked out completely so not requiring rear view mirror same as vans trucks etc. could be wrong though haven't been in the trade for a long time.

Going to try get another mirror like this one in my work ute, I generally have the same issue in all cars unless they have lowering seats!
Anyone tried this?
