hi all,

I want to replace our 3.9l petrol engine to a td5 for our discovery.
Will I need to change to box as well or will mine work?
and, does any one know where I could get a decent price td5 engine??

cheaper to sell yours and buy a TD5 vehicle.
Its noit just the engine but also the fly-by-wire throttle etc etc.

i thoght about that and had the car evaluated, they reckon its only worth $8000, which is bull **** as its only a 1999 model, it has done about 150000km, but is still in perfect condition. so i thoght it would be cheaper to change the engine?
how much would a td5 engine set me back with eberything that goes with it?

In a March 05 edition of 'Just 4x4s' Magazine, a 4WD company called "3WJ" (in Revesby NSW) was selling a complete Td5 engine for $4,750...or you could get the complete running gear for $8,500.

In some of the 4x4 advert mags they have TD5s for $3750 complete but it doesn't say what complete means eg with electrics?. Nor does it give condition of the engine. TR in Lonsdale SA have them.

Some also add the running gear (I assume gearbox and transfer case) for $6000 all up with engine.

I considered this option as well...it looked like I was going to spend about $10,000 8O
This was about 3 years ago and prices have come down but I would imagine that there are so many changes to make it not worth it.

You must consider that you are going from petrol to turbo diesel.
So look at intercoolers, fuel lines & tanks...as the diesel circulates back to the tank, fuel pressures, matching transfer, shafts....the list goes on.

If you the full bottle on this type of change over, fantastic but even the guys here in Melbourne who offered the changeover service were not even interested....and they could have taken the money and run 8O
