I am after what weight & spec oils should I be using in the gear box, T/case, Diffs & Engine for the td5 D2 12/01 model??
I have been asking around at the diffrent places in town & the answer I keep getting is "ring your Land Rover dealer". Well I ain't going there because they told me my 80000 km serrvice would be $900 because they have to replace the timing belt, yer bull crap, it don't have one.
So if you blokes could help that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gidget
From my 99 TD5 owners handbook

ENGINE
5W/30,5/W40,5/W50 ambient temp for the 3 is -30 to 50degC
Oil to meet ACEA A1&B1.Sump is 8.2litres,but it states engine oil change and filter change is 7.2 litres. So there could be a TYPO error there.

MAIN GEARBOX
MTF 94 TEXACO 2.7 litres(man)
ATF DexronIID 9.8 litres(auto)

TRANSFER BOX
Texaco Multigear 75/90R,or oil to meet APR GL5 2.1 litres

AXLES
Texaco Multigear 75w/90R,or oil to meet APR GL5
front and rear diffs,1.7 litres each

POWER STEER and ACE
Texaco Cold climate PAS fluid 14315
No capasities given

COOLING SYSTEM
Havoline Extended Life Coolant,or any ethlene glycol based anti-freeze(containing no methanol) with ORGANIC ACID TECHNOLOGY(OAT) corrosion inhibitors.Use one part anti-freeze to one part water for protection down to -36degC
13 litres,cooling system refill,7.5 litres,GO FIGURE??????

BRAKE FLUID
Universal brake fluids or any brake fluid having a min boil point of 260degC,complying with FMVSS 116 DOT4

I hope this helps, others will probably suggest what type of oils they use.

The RAVE CD has a huge amount of info in,see the EMPOURIUM to get a set,its a must have.

it doesnt all drain out due to the shape of the sump and the position of the drain plug....
i use penrite HPR diesel 5....

it mustnt all drain out when you drop a radiator hose.....
some may remain in there so it is a good idea to flush the system by sticking the garden hose in and flushing in a reverse direction to normal flow....
and if anyone knows where to get this coolant please let me know....

Hi Zook
I was chating with my boss the otherday about coolant. We have huge problems at work as there are different specs for all the different machines.
Im pretty sure he said our filter suppliers have a new generation coolant that suits all vehicles, the big bonus its a never change coolant, all thats needed is a certain % of concentrate to be added every 12months.I will ask him who the supplier is and get more info.

sounds good to me.....

does it also meet the above specs.....?
electrolysis is a problem without the correct corrosion inhibitor from what i understand....

I will get more info, apparently it doesnt go acidic as it ages like many coolants do,hence no reason to change it.
Will find out the product/supplier next week.

Thanks all,
I have only had the D2 serviced at the dealer, but now the fender is gone & not taking up all my spare time (playing or repairing) I will start doing the services myself.

any Caltex garage or dealer has Caltex/Havoline extended life coolant which is exactly the same as Land Rover OAT coolant. Texaco/Caltex OAT coolant is the factory fill. This is also known as GM Dexcool. It is bright orange in colour.
FWIW, I can actually buy it cheaper from the dealer than the last lot I bought from the Caltex depot at Penrith. :?

Remember, never, ever mix different types of coolant. The results aren't pretty.
