I called in to my dealer to get a price on the second(24month) service today wich is due soon(1000km).
$1100 it seems:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
He asked how many kms Ive done, just turned 28000km.In that case I dont need a full service,$660 instead.
What have others paid for the full dealer second service???? Im thinking I want the full service,no shortcuts.

See if you can get corporate servicing.I wish I had.Others will say how much it costs,I dint find out about it until after I had bought the D4.Apparently dealers are pretty liberal in selling it,all you need is a coppy of a pay slip with an ABN number I believe.
See what the brains trust say.

One of the reasons my LR's are never seen at the stealers.

Apart from warranty work.

The good indies around here do a better job at around half the price:D

Im using the dealer whilst under the 5 year warranty.I dont want any issues if there is a warranty problem, especially seeing I have already modified the vehicle somewhat.I believe in forming a relationship with the dealer,as I intend to go on to a new Disco 5 oneday.

Appreciate that was probably the reason.

But i have had many new LR's,never ever had a warranty issue that was not sorted.Actually i have found LR warranty to be way better than the major jap manufacturers, even though they(the jap vehicles) went to the dealers for services during and after the warranty period ran out.

LR seemed to always be very helpful, and go out of their way to get things sorted.

Hi Andy.

My 2 year full service was $1192.58. Ouch. I've only just passed 18,000km so it was a time service rather than mileage. This was the equivalent of a 52,000km service. From memory the service manager said it was a big service. Unfortunately the invoice only says carried out scheduled service so no real breakdown of what it was. Breakdown of cost (all before GST) Service - $525.00, Oil - $169.00, Parts - $322.89, Miscellaneous - $67.27.

If you want to look at a copy of the invoice PM me with your e-mail address and I'll scan it in and send it to you.

Thanks Martin.
Service man did say it was a 52000km service due time wise, and a big one.Was happy to reccomend the interim service as it would be unlikely my D4 would be at 52000km @ 3 years old.

I could only begin to explain the Land Rover st. Leonard's experience I had with my Freelander 2 so I won't but I will say be very wary of the cut down service.

I explained I wasn't happy with the repeated high pricing to a new guy at the dealer and he said "no worries, I'll look after you". I got the car back instead of the usual 1k it was $400 which felt great. Then on the way home I checked what they did - not even an oil change. In fact nothing physical, they just did a 'safety inspection' and made sure my brakes worked, tyres were OK and wipers etc.

I would have rather pay the 1k and at least get a service.

Last tip, clarify with them the difference in 'a big service' to a regular one, if they can't articulate it with actual physical servicing ( ie replace spark plugs, change coolant) rather than listing a bunch of 'checks' (ie fluid check, door hinge check) then they are full of it and just ask for the normal service.

Good luck.

As a comparison, mine had the second service(timed),done at 2yrs,as it had 28206k on the clock.

The 2yr service done on 11/2/14,done by LR specialist independents was $396 including GST.

Adding inflation,it is still no where near the LR price today.

What were the 'parts'?

My guess is,oil filter,pollen filter,battery for remote?

Anything else?

Oils were itemised separately.

The Oil was Edge Professional OE 5W-30

Parts were as they appear on the invoice were

LR013148 - Filter-Engine Oil-Element
1013938 - Plug-Oil Drain
LR023977 - Filter- Odour and Particles
PHE00112 - Filter-Air Cleaner
LR009705 - Element-Fuel Filter

Miscellaneous were

Washer Additive (I keep forgetting to tell them not to add that)
Oil Flush and Tank Treatment
Environmental Waste Levy
Workshop Supplies (sausage rolls for the mechanic I suppose :p)

The 12 month service was $820 inc GST so this one cost $370 more.

I was quoted around $1.8k if I prepaid the first three annual services and was told that it was valid at any dealership. It was only a small discount on what they quoted for paying as it was due so didn't bother but sounds like more enquiries are warranted. Before I bought I rang a couple of dealers to find out the typical service price so I knew running costs and the typical response was "we can only calculate coat if you provide a vin." That was telling me buy first then we will give you the bad news. My q5 needed $1200 in brake pads and discs at 30k km and 60k/4yr cost $3k so you can understand I was a bit anxious what I would be up for.

I called the new Land Rover dealer here south of Brisbane about the recommended 6 month service/fluid change for Defenders.

First, the service department said it wasn't an essential service and didn't seem to know it was even recommended. They kept saying the 12 month was the first.

They also said dodging it would not void your warranty.

Then they said if I wanted to book it in - for changing the two fluids rather than an official 'service' it would be $550.00.

If I wanted a courtesy vehicle the wait would be three weeks.
If I was OK with a drive drop off, the wait is two weeks.

Well that's a timely thread refresh because I had the 2 year / 52000km service completed today with just shy of 50k on the clock and about 23 months passed.

Stung a bit at $1250 but I've decided to stay with dealers until at least the warranty is up.

Main items are as reported previously; oil & oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter. Brake pad and rotor thicknesses measured and recorded (I asked for the numbers to be recorded on to the service sheet). EPB adjusted.

The interim services are official LR services and I have had both done, which in my case was around 11k and 37k on the clock. This is oil & oil filter and not much else .... perhaps pollen filter too, can't quite remember. Sometimes known as arduous service schedule rather than interim.

I would not use somewhere who doesn't know the service schedules. I have used 2 dealers for the 4 services to date and both were familiar with the schedules.

At both dealers I've used the courtesy car wait is very long and probably my only real complaint, given the premium price charged. Although availability was much better at the 3 previous services.

Regards,
Scott
