Once you have purchased the app,can you download it to other devices anyhow???

If it's on an iPad then yeah you can simply use your apple account on the new iPad and download from the Apple Store..

Surely Samsung would have copied this feature by now [emoji1]

Same goes for android. So long as you use the same account, all your apps are available for download in the Play Store.

Hi Landyandy,
Have u got "kies" on your computer.
If yes, download all you want from device to 'puter. Then put onto other device.
I cant see any reason that it wont do it.
Kies is the app for computers that samsung devices use to update and also to download/load to said devices.

cheers

Hi,
Yep, very usable.
It does things differently to OziExplorer, but the two can interchange the same files.
One big advantage is you can download an area off the map or along a planned route. Thus you can have an area of satellite imagery well off the network.
You can sync your tablet with cloud.hemaexplorer.com.au and share trips, tracks, photos etc with selected others or public or keep it private.

Neither Hema nor Ozi do turn by turn navigation, as their maps are just images.
However it is possible (with a bit of planning) to use Google Maps to plan turn by turn tracks and import the Google .kml file to Hema. This is handy for complicated tracks/routes on back roads when normal GPS will favour routing you out to major roads.

The Hema app is good value and easer to get started with than Ozi, but not as versatile, because you can calibrate almost any map to use with Ozi, Hema only uses its own (very good) maps.

I've got both of them (I'm a serious map whore) and like them both for different reasons. I run them on ios.

Up until the the last update of Explorer, the 4wd app was much better for going anywhere you didn't have mobile reception. It is just Memory Map with the Hema maps thrown in. I really like the Hema maps. With the topo maps you can buy from Memory Map it becomes a very good remote touring app. The support from Memory Map is excellent too.

I bought Explorer when it came out just because I had to. I have found it good for planning trips, primarily because you can use the satellite images with the maps to get a good idea of the terrain you are planning on travelling through to get ideas for potential camp sites. I rarely used it while actually travelling as you needed to be online to access the best map data (which still wasn't up to topo standard anyway).

The new release of Explorer, version 3.0, is a bit of a game changer. Clearly they are changing their business model (sensibly) to a subscription based service. The cheap version of the Explorer map is ok - in fact its a pretty good map although the changes in resolution seem to be a bit clunky. With the subscription version you get better resolution which makes it much easier to use, although no more information that I've been able to find. What you also get is topographic maps. I don't think there are WA topos available yet but that will change. The explorer map can also be downloaded and used offline so it is now good for touring.

While I still prefer the 4wd app at the moment, I'm really impressed with Explorer now. It is brilliant for planning as you can still use the satellite images as well. I think in time I will get more used to the explorer map format and probably start using it more. What it still needs I think is more of the normal Hema maps but maybe that's just a case of me getting used to the new format.

We have a bit of a trip over to the Flinders and Lake Eyre planned in a few weeks so it will be interesting to see how it stacks up then.

Basically though, I think its a very good app and its only going to get better. I used to be a big fan of Ozi-explorer but since it wasn't available on ios I had to look for an alternative. I think I have used all the apps now available on ios and I think the Hema stuff is the best available. There is nothing now about Ozi that I miss.

The only caveat I would put on all that is I am using it on the east coast. I know very little about what mapping is available in WA and any mapping app is only as good as the maps it uses.

Cheers,
Jon

Check your inbox Andrew, I got an email saying the Android version was available.
I use Hema on a large (11") tablet, I've put all of our farm gates in as waypoints, making them a piece of wee to find in the fog and dark.
My only gripe with the app, is it freezes in record mode. At least it's not keeping incriminating evidence. ;)

Hey Andy,

If you haven't solved this issue yet this may help.
Your Hema App may have been linked to a google account ( seeing as you are an android user ).
If you log into that account on your new device you should be able to install it from there.
This works for apps purchased through the app store, so I would assume it would work for Hema.

Not a happy camper.
I contacted Hema about the PRO upgrade, they said visit the play store, update your app and then you can upgrade to PRO.
It seems the update wipes what you had in the past, reverting it to a basic app.I couldn't do stuff on the app I could before the update.
Now reluctantly downloading the PRO maps.
It all worked well, changing over tablets. The new one is copping all the new mapping at the moment.

When I was choosing, I went for MudMap. It seemed to be a love child of VMS. I was reasonably happy with MudMap 2, but the maps were expensive. Then MudMap 3 was released, with all the maps included. All the maps I had already paid for, plus the cost of the App, included in the new App. Makes my blood boil.
Still, I like the new one, except it's dumb. If I move location from one map to another, I would hope the App would know what map I need next. No, it doesn't. FFS, the Melway app has no trouble with this. Maybe that's because Melway grew up making maps, not apps.
Does the Hema app have the same trouble? I'll change if it doesn't.
