I cant comment on Defenders all that much, nor that Defender, but I do know the owner through Discovery2 circles. He is a Landy enthusiast if that makes any difference.

By the piccies and description it looks like a nice wagon and for the price is pretty good. Good examples of extremes under $30k are hard to find. Just the normal advice get someone to check it thoroughly and check all service doccumentation, warranty and recall work. Above all check for oil around the injector harness area. This is a known problem with the early TD5 and it amazes me that LR never had a recall. Having said that if it happens to mine I would still expect LR to supply a new harness and if any damage to injectors to supply these. If this is the vehicle your mate has his heart set on it looks good. Nice colour. Just get him to make sure he is OK with the comfort level. As much as I love my Fender if I had it over again I would have gone the Disco. I would still if I could find someone to swap who had the same equip level of accessories.

Good Nic, 105,000kms on the clock. Oil change every 5,000kms, filters every 10,000kms. Have a look in the galleries there are some pics. I think that I have sunk too much money into it to seriously consider a trade. It has dual batteries, winch bar, side steps, reece hitch, rhino roof bars, spotties, tinted windows, Pioneer mp3 stereo with 200w rear speakers, outback roller drawer system and overhead console with UHF, Cargo barrier, new Cooper STT tyres, Chequer Plate bits, Snorkel, Takla rear seat covers. Will post some more pics in the galleries soon. Bought just over 18 months ago paid $36k and have spent about $5k on it.

thanks for that  he is 6 foot and around 100 kilo's -big bastard - and kind of looks like a condom full of wallnuts style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif so i dunno how he will go , he like me fell head over heals with the shape and simplicity , but alas i went for a 4.2 Patrol cause i got the Landrover run around and no suitable vehicles in Perth for the same money !
I just wish they catered for the wider variety of bloke style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
Craig E , why a Disco ? they have a much less cargo area and a few other drama's with finish quality
When i went looking i was very suprised at how little room was in the back of the Disco , also with the wheel arches /flares you would have a few drama's going to a 33 inch tyre :? the weight between the Fender and the Disco would be considerable as well so the Disco would feel under powered i would have thought ????

Comfort is a big part and the Disco is way more comfortable than the Fender. I have owned both. Load room with kids etc is the main reason I bought the fender. The Disco overall is a much nicer vehicle to drive and the TD5 versions the Disco flogs the Fender for power. Now I do love the fender but miss the creature comforts of my Disco and Rangie. The main reason I would change is that the leg room and comfort for my wife is just not good enough. Even though your mate is 6" the Defender will accomodate him easily. There is plenty of head room and it only takes two pieces of 40-50 mm square tube and some new high tensile bolts to lift the seat up giving more leg room. It would not be all that hard to make the runners longer or reposition the seat bases to make them go back further if needed. This will all depend on rear passengers. the rear seating is not designed for an adult at all and for a vehicle this size the leg room in the back is appalling, although on a plus there is no tunnel just a flat floor. The sad thing is with just a little thought by LR engineers the Defender could be one of the best 4x4s in the world without compromise. Just make sure you get to take it for a significant test drive before getting one to make sure you are comfortable in it. I found out too late and now do not really have much of an option but to stay with it for a while unless I want to lose heaps. I do love it though, work that out. Just be sure. Owning a Defender is a compromise in some areas no matter what some say, you just have to be prepared to accept the compromise.True the bigger tyres on a Disco need some mods but nothing that areciprocating saw cant fix and some metal folding. The load room in a Disco just means more creative packing as it actually has a lot of space, just mor upwards and a roof rack may be a neccesity with a family.
