An exterior door handle stopped working today. Rear RHS door. Opens from the inside properly. The exterior handle pulls fine but doesn't open the door. All other handles work properly. Any ideas?

Anything to do with locking and unlocking? Not that it probably matters much, sounds like something's given up...

At first I wondered if it was possibly to unlock all but one door, cause I'm still getting used to keyless entry and all the other bells and whistles. Now I suspect it's something mechanical, too.

A forum version of drunk dialling! Thanks Meccles.

go to the opposite side of the car and watch the locking latch through the window as you attempt to unlock, you may find that it is trying to unlock but can not(partial movement or not at all). If that is the case you may need a new actuator.

Yeah I felt a bit bad for telling my daughter off for messing with the door lock when it turned out to be the actuator... :$

Thanks for the advice. The interior door lock/latch unlocks properly.

But something I've noticed with the exterior handles that work. It's a two-stage process: the handle pulls out to engage with an interior mechanism, then the handle pulls out further and operates the mechanism to open the door. But the broken one pulls out to that first stage only and can't pull any further.

Reasonably common on a D3/RRS, if you pull the handle a second time, quickly after the first, it will likely open, replace the lock actuator assembly (the door lock) and all will be fine.

The double-pull method is not working, unfortunately. Got it booked in for next week.

The handle started working again, one frosty morning in the bush. Still working, now. No idea why.

Haha. Went bush and saved $600. Double bonus.

Door handle has returned to "on strike" mode.
