Today I braved the cold weather and installed one side of the CSW Gullwings.
I have a 2015 110 Defender.
The instructions I got arent that great, and I'll paste some more details pics and instructions now that I know what I have to do tomorrow to do the other one. Its not a simple job.
Anyway, here are the results of the left side.

OK I finished it today.
The hardest job is getting the window out, its really stuck in good. Ive got skinned knuckles, and despite my best efforts there are a few new scratches on the car.
Anyway this is how you do it, or how I did it.
1. Remove the trimming
For me, I had to remove my Cargo barrier first.
Then there are 3 plastic rivets that you have to pull out, they come out easy enough using a decent trimmer tool (like a back of the hammer claw, but plastic) - The Seatbelts DONT have to be removed, just push the trim aside.

2. Remove these plastic felt covered clips
They sit in between the window channel and the outside wall. Didnt count them, but about 15 each side. You need to slide them to the corner, then pull them out with some needles node pliers - sometimes they fall out by themselves.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/237.jpg
3. Tape up the window with masking tape
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/238.jpg
4. Now the hard part,
you have to get under the window and scrape that glue/silicone/rubber sticky stuff out. You cant get to it from inside the car.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/239.jpg
5. I found this putty knife the best, but you cant get into the top using it, you have to use a flat one.

6. Heat Gun make it easier

7. Sticky stuff coming out

8. Inside Rubber

9 Missing nut - whats that rattle?
Notice that a nut was missing under this bolt, fixed it up but where did it go?
Was it even there in the first place?

10. Window out
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/245.jpg
11. Get rid of the tabs
There are 4 corner tabs that need to be removed, I used the dremel, or you can use a file.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/246.jpg
12. Razor blade and clean
I used a razor blade and metho soaked in my old undies. It was fun to chase the kids around with my ex-undies
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/07/247.jpg
13. Put the window in
Its a tight fit, but when I did the one yesterday it wouldnt fit. I had to trim off 1-2mm off the top part of the cars panel. I used the Dremel for that. Today this one fit in.

14. Rivetting time
Yesterday I used a small "normal rivet gun. Today I bought a 400mm riviet gun. Much easier.

15. Silicone up from the inside.
Im sure I took a photo, but its gone. I Used a flexible type clear silicone.
16. All done

Well done mate. I've had one installed (by Daniel at Mulgo) on the left hand side of my 110. I'm leaving the right hand side standard for now, so the mutt can poke his nose out :)

Hi Nige.
Do you mind if I ask how much fitting costs?
I'm going to purchase 2 gull wings soon, probably from The Expedition Center, and really can't be bothered with the hassle of fitting them. I need to work out if I want solids or glass.
Thanks for any info.

Hi Ken,
Sorry I can't be specific with fitting costs, as it was over a year ago and I had a bunch of stuff installed at once on the same day (Nugget snorkel sealing kit, dual battery system and monitor, plus 12V outlets in rear cargo area, as well as the gullwing window install).
Just be aware there is sometimes a bit of a wait for the gullwing windows to arrive in stock.
Give Daniel a call.
Cheers,
karlz

Hi Nige.
Do you mind if I ask how much fitting costs?.....
Its not easy work if you havent done it before.
For someone who has done it before, it would probably take them about 2-3 hours per side. It took me about 10 for both.

For anyone from Rocky and North, I've just been to a new business, Whitsunday
Prestige Euopean, Cannonvale, Airly Beach.
Mark the owner is part of Sydney 4x4 Accessories and a very experienced Land Rover and European marque tech.
He is also an agent for Front Runner and other quality suppliers.
He can supply and fit the gull wing Windows, and I saw his fantastic 90 which he is selling. Fitted with all the good stuff.
I will be getting Mark to fit my gull wings.
A really nice couple ( he and his wife who runs the front of the business) and highly recommended.

Has anyone in the Perth area done this? Running short on time and thinking of paying for the install but only if the company has done it before. Not a fan of being a guinea pig

Guys... (re-opening up an old thread)
I'm starting the research for installing Gullwings in my '09 Defender 110 wgn. For the moment, just wondering what are people's thoughts in regards to "Full-Glass" vs "Full Ally" vs "50/50 Glass/Ally"? I know this is a personal thing but I'm looking for if there is any issues with one over the other - Durability long term - Is one more prone to leaks (ie: Dust &/or Water)
I'm leaning towards the full Ally ones but I'm interested to hear other people's experiences. These Gullwings aren't cheap, so I want to get it right 1st time (hopefully)

Pop over and check mine out......I’m actually home this week for a change.
I have 4 non-standard CSW, two are ally and the other two are glass/ally. These are the cheapest of the commercial ones and I believe there is quite a lead time on them. Mine haven’t leak water or let dust in. If I had my time over I would opt for the ally version, although the ally sheet is quite thin.
A few guys have made there own using the existing frames.

Cheers for that... what year is your Defender?
Also, can u remove the Glass from the frame (ie: remove the felt and middle support) and still leave the frame within the car?

I believe that what others have done, I haven’t had a close look.

As mentioned earlier, there is quite a lead time on the CSW Gullwings, I’m waiting on 10 of them, some ordered in July.
I was talking to Luke at CSW yesterday, he’s a great guy to deal with, but unfortunately they’re just so busy that it pushes the lead time out.
I’ve had them in my County for several years, no leaks or any issues at all for that matter. I’m not saying this because I supply them, they are good value.
From what I’ve seen online recently, it looks like the Frontrunner Gullwings have just gone up significantly in price to $1080 [emoji15].
They are an awesome product, but that’s quite a rise from $815.

Its an accurate statement, just doesn't say how many minutes haha. For me it took a weekend...so lets say about 1000 odd [wink11]
Its the 'No modifications required' that's a bit of a fib...you have to file down the panel in the bottom corners and all the tabs to get it to fit.
A couple of things I learnt along the way for those wanting to install the front runner gullwings:
- Wear hearing protection even if you're using a file, its surprisingly loud.
- Only use a small bead of sikaflex, Unlike the factory windows with the large amount of rubber and sealant the FR brackets squeeze the window right against the panel leaving almost no gap to fill. I spent a lot of energy cleaning up excess sikaflex on my first one cause I overestimated the bead I would need
- I found that filing and all the back and forth getting the window out left the bottom of the window panel a bit loose and rattly. I ran a bead of sikaflex along the bottom of the panel between it and the reinforcement behind. It actually stopped a 'factory fitted' rattle!
-I used a hose to test watertightness after it had cured. This is a good idea to do before you refit the interior trim panels. Despite my best efforts there were a couple leaks due to a bolt I must have overlooked when torqueing up, and where the bead wasn't quite enough (even though it still squeezed out like vegemite through a ryvita). I didnt think about the water interacting with the locks and after coming back 2 days later to open them the locks had already started to bind up due to corrosion. I suggest spraying some WD40 or silicone lube spray into the locks to keep them moving freely, mine have worked perfectly ever since.

Just an update, my windows dont leak at all.
I spray the Gerni at it, no water gets thru.
