Well, after many years it's finally time to say goodbye to the L322. :(
After a rocky start with the transmission issues it had, it turned into a wonderful car that made traveling long distances a breeze. The couple of times I took it offroad, it truly amazed me at its abilities and ease in which it goes places. Apart from that early issue, it only left us stranded once when the starter motor went to God - and that can happen to anyone.
The Diesel engine in these vehicles really is a peach and I'll miss the way it just went up any hill in top gear without even looking like it was going to slow down or even that it was working hard.
Designed in Germany, it always seems to want to cruise at 120 or 130 rather than plod along at 100 - I gave it a squirt today and 140 comes along quite quickly. I won't say on a public forum what speed I've had it to, but it's bloody fast for a 2 1/2 tonne brick. :D
SWMBO asked if it was too late to change our minds, she got a tad emotional knowing it's moving on.
So, tomorrow it starts a new chapter with a new family (well, barring a catastrophe like a meteor or something falling on it tonight). I wish them well and hope they enjoy it as much as we have. I just can't justify it sitting in the driveway only going to buy milk and bread on the weekend, so off it goes into the wild blue yonder.... :D
I'll still frequent this forum and impart the knowledge I have on these superb vehicles. Maybe one day another may grace our driveway.

Thanks so much, Tassie is on our list of things to do, I may very well take you up on that, what an ideal car to drive around that area. :)

That may not happen as soon as I think now, there's been a change of plans. Common sense and life may get in the way of this one - short term at least.

Take that common sense and put it in a deep dark hole, where it belongs.

G`day .
Gav was good enough to offer his L322 to us and because it was the best one that i had come across and we`ve been looking for at least 18 mths probably 2 yrs , there really was very little choice for us .
We payed the price Gav wanted but i think we may have got the better part of the deal , mostly because a vehicle that has a history like his is i consider pretty much priceless .
I`ve read that people think the diesel is under powered , i don`t know what they are expecting from a 4 wheel drive vehicle of this size but i was listening to the speed alert regularly going off and thinking that i`d better get used to the vehicle quick smart .
On the way home there are 2 climbs that our other RRCs are very aware of , i was expecting at least a down change or having to depress the pedal a large amount but neither were required .
We`ve had V8 RRs for over 20 yrs but the Growl of the straight 6 diesel is something else and may require music inside the cabin at all times .
Although it was a fairly long day with a 6am start and bus and train and even with a side track of city traffic to visit our daughter and the 215 odd km between our place and Gavs , which requires crossing from one side of the city to the other , the last part of the drive was almost refreshing , we got home around 11pm .
Thanks for selling us your car Gav , we tend to keep them a long time so it will be cared for .
Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter
Welcome to the world of TD6 ownership. I'm sure you will love Gav's car. They have an awesome motor even in standard tune.
Enjoy & drive :D:D:D

Probably should have mentioned that the Rover V8's in the RRC's are no match for the TD6 in the torque stakes - there isn't a hill I've found that it couldn't sail over at whatever speed chosen. And it won't ruin your bank account with its fuel bill either. :)
Glad its found a home with a fellow Range River lover.
Enjoy it. :)
