I recently got a free invite to do the Landrover Experience (in Brisbane). Anyone done it? Is it worthwhile or really just for newbies and first timers?

thanks

Hey mate,

We did the LRE day up the sunshine coast at a property inland from Beerwah.

12 cars, Mixture of Discos, RRS, Evoque, Defenders.

Effectively the day starts with a Intro, Then driving moguls in all the terrain settings to give you a better understanding of how capably the vehicle is. Then Hill climbs, Decent's, then creek crossings always interchanging between you and your partner having a go.

Pretty basic stuff, but the aim is to give people comfort in using systems in the vehicle and both you and your partner driving.

Morning tea, lunch and Afternoon tea is provided. Then discuss tips and trips for each vehicle too.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Andrew

I did one here a couple of years ago.

For those contemplating a new vehicle, probably a good way to have a good look at the different LR vehicles and drive them back to back.

The dealer I bought mine from arranges a similar day for new buyers. The guy who ran it is a LR Expert endorsed by LR. I found it helpful to transition from owning a regular 4wd to the wizardry of the D4. Well worth it as it gives you some experience with and the knowledge of the different systems that you may not otherwise discover.

I have plenty of 4WD experience (non Landrover) and have done one of Grahams Sand Courses on Fraser. Could be a good day out. The other half is away so it will keep me amused (spare seat if anyones interested)

I did the equivalent in Sydney a few years ago, if you are an experienced four wheel driver you won't find much too challenging, but if you are new to Discovery it is a good way to learn and get some confidence in the Terrain response, and let's face it and day in the bush in a Discovery is a good day.

My D4 was a demo with 2,958 km on the clock from a dealer in Mackay. About 3 weeks after I drove it back home I got an LRE voucher in the mail. Was not expecting it. :D

Go back to your dealer and press the issue.

Just did the day up at Armidale and thoroughly enjoyed it. Instructors were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. You won't regret it at all.

My voucher came from LRA so nothing to do with the dealer. I guess you could ask them if they passed your details off to them. Or if it was a demo, it may not qualify.

Did my day today was a great day out. Was more of a learning day for my other half to get used to driving the defender. Was very well organised and the tracks were good , if you have done plenty of 4wding then it may seem a bit boring but for someone like my partner she loved every second of it.
Biggest surprise for me though was how well the evoques went off-road even with complete novice drivers at the helm they went straight up every track without breaking a sweat.

Completed this today, was interesting to do and good day out.

Its really a familiarisation day to do with the vehicle basics and goes over the systems in the vehicle. Perfect for those that have done no 4wd driving and those new to the brand.

It does cover a lot of stuff that the dealers should probably cover but never do in Australia as given its free, with food etc, a great intro to the brand.

Normally its a mix of different LR products, with up to 12 vehicles, however today there were just 6 vehicles, all, Discovery 4s including the provided by LRA for the people to use. They were also all white except mine (silver) so it was good just to concentrate on D4 things.

I certainly learnt stuff i didn't know and most of the information, apart from a few errors, was good to know. Its something i would recommend people do if given the chance.

Yeah having done plenty of 4WDing and courses but all in cars with levers prior to my first D4, I'd have to say the day was great as an intro to the whole new world of terrain response. That day I realised I could love an auto 4WD!

Was even better for my wife who'd never been offroad, to get a glimpse of what the cars can do. She'd have never let me take us through a lot of tracks otherwise.

All good people, and the Werribee site has plenty of stuff to play on.

A very big thank you to apom, as he kindly let me accompany him as his guest on the Land Rover Experience day. It was great to meet other AULRO members.

As apom mentioned, the day did cover a lot of things that the dealer should have covered as a lot of time was spent on the key and it's features as well as the menu section regarding the reverse camera etc.

Thank you once again to apom

Just did course today in Melbourne.
Enjoyable day, I learnt about terrain response etc. and put into action.
Dealer can tell you the theory but can't take you out bush and put into practice.
Really demonstrated how clever the D4 is.

Completed the Newcastle experience day yesterday and I was very impressed with what all the cars were capable of. The guys split us up into two groups, those with low range and ground clearance and those without. We then walked the very short track we were to negotiate in each of the terrain modes. I was super impressed that we all made it first go having done nothing more than put her in low range. For some of the group this was their first time off the black stuff and the car just made it so easy.

Unfortunately the co-pilot was unwell so no action shots.
