View Full Version : MY 2013 an 8 Speed?

During my recent trawls through carsales I have come across a few D4s that are a 2012 build but claim to be MY13. These cars have a gear lever and claim in the specs to be an 8 speed. I was under the impression that the 8 speed came out in 2013 and had "the knob".

2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE Auto 4x4 MY13 (http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/_/OAG-AD-12585396?Cr=0&sdmvc=1)

I do like this car and I would prefer a gear lever, but for this much money I would be after an 8 Speed.

Can any of you gurus enlighten me?

Cheers Carl.

In a D4 or RRV (from MY07) a gear stick means a 6 speed. The current RRS has a gear stick but is an 8 speed.

The lever indicates 6-speed, so either the wrong picture is shown or more likely the seller Teller Automotive are relying on the standard spec of MY13 because of the August build date. Ask for the VIN and see if the model year character is C or D.

Thanks. If i was going to pay that much i would be after a low Km 8 Speed, even a TDV6. Preferably an SE.

Apparently the 5.0 na matches well to the higher spec (nm wise) ZF 6 speed. I'm not sure when they finished in the D4.

Ole Mate of mine has one, his is at least 4 if not 5 years old HSE, he has the stick and told me the other night when he was looking at mine that his was the 8 speed.

It could possibly have been an option in the HSE, if it was he is the type to option all the way up, so it might just be an 8speed the one you're looking at.

There must be some way of telling, isn't there ❓

Use manual mode then keep up-shifting until it runs of out gears!

No, it wasn't an option as such, except in the "if you choose this model year instead, sir, you'll get the 8 speed box" sense.

My understanding is that stick=6 speed. Best way to tell is to plug the VIN into Topix. I can do that if you don't have access.

MY 12 was the last of the six speeds i am pretty sure, all with sticks.

All the eight speeds had the rotary dial.

BFG is a type of tyre that the BFG actually doesn't really like,if that makes any sense.:confused::D:D

All fun and games:D

All the eight speeds had the rotary dial.Only if referring to D4s. A stick version of the 8-speed is made and is fitted to the current RRS.

I call Tombie The BFG,because of his love for the tyre AND he is big.The Big Friendly Giant;);););););)
He has fitted an 8 speed steering wheel from an RRS to his 6 speed D4 so he actually has working paddles on a 6 speed;););););)

So what happens when he is in 6th and paddles up?? Does some poor guy in a RRS suddenly have an up shift?
