Hi guys , I am about to replace my timing belt along with all the usual suspect parts. Next year we are starting a 2 year around aus going remote as possible. Would it be wise to replace the water pump at the same time ? I think I know the answer but haven't seen problems with them pop up much.
Cheers

Mine was done at this time on basis it was easy and small relative extra cost. Do the plastic hose block piece also.

The water pump is not hard, can be done easy enough , depends on how many ks you have .

Your call really but let sleeping dogs lie I say- unless you have lots of ks or your coolant is old and suspect.

Have you got the locking kit for the timing gear.

Cheers Ean

Let me know if you need any tools to do the job, I have some well used ones.

You need a good breaker bar / tension wrench to undo and then tighten the crank bolt if doing the oil pump.

Cheers Ean

Thanks for the offer Ean, I'm getting Leigh at Nightcliff to do the work. Plus blank off the egr's at the same time :)

I didn't worry about the water pump. Ean has previously asked about that:

I didn't think to get my EGR's done with the belts :( Went to do them last Monday and didn't get very far so it's Saturday's job now

one LR indie did my last timing belt and changed the water pump as it was easy and no labour was charged just the cost of the water pump, but indie's i spoke to when i did a ring around mentioned nothing of doing the water pump. second time around have left the water pump alone on a diff disco whilst doing the timing belt. your call really.

The water pump was under $100 ???? Seems cheap for a LR:o . I'm getting all hoses replaced so I'll change the WP also .

And the replacement cost of the pipes will give you a nice fright. ;)
