Visit to the Snow

Hi,

Its been while since I've owned a diesel..... I'm planning to take the bin lids to the snow at Lake Mountain for the day and wanted to check if I need to put any anti freeze additive into the diesel for such a trip.

That L322 certainly has all the fruit. I would doubt you need any additive.

Fill up when you get there as the diesel in the mountains is the cold climate version.

Having a tank full of Alpine Mix bought at the snow fields is essential
OR

You buy the cold climate diesel additive and put that in your fuel tank.

The reason for doing either one of these two options is that with ordinary diesel and sub zero temperatures the wax in the diesel fuel separates and clogs fuel lines/pump/injectors. The wax will redissolve when it warms - this can be via a warm day, a fan type heater or hot waster is poured on the fuel lines/components.

For the day? I wouldnt bother, there is very little chance that the tank will get cold enough in that time. if staying over night in very very cold temps I would.

Hi, I have done numerous day trips to Buller over the last 11 years in my (now sold) L322 TD6 and apart from making sure coolant was to standard spec, never worried about extra anti freeze or alpine diesel. Never had an issue. However if I was parking for a week on the mountain I would have taken these precautions.
