Depends a lot on what body you have and how much extra gear you have to move before getting to the clutch. Last time I did this was in the middle of the Simpson Desert in 1966 (In an S2a - the S3 is slightly easier as the clutch release mechanism is simpler) and it took around a day (in two separate half day efforts).

A professional who knows what he is doing (AND IS FAMILIAR WITH SERIES LANDROVERS), and is in a workshop with all the right tools, should be a lot quicker, perhaps four or five hours.

However, since it involves disassembly of a lot of bodywork (minimum of floor and transmission tunnel) since you can't lower the gearbox, time will depend on how badly rusted up the bolts are.

Tough call without knowing what sort of condition everything is in.

Last time I took the route of taking out the engine instead of the trans.
With the radiator / support etc out of the way it was simple enough, and a good chance to give the engine / bay etc a clean up and paint if required.

6 hours should do the job, but thats a very rough guess coz we all know how much stuffing around a sheared bolt or the like can add.

Cheers

Take the floors and gearbox tunnel out, leave the seat base in. Undo propshafts, handbrake linkage, bell housing bolts and clutch mechanism. Lift the gearbox back about 6 inches, and leave it sitting on the cross member (support the back with a floorjack). This will give you enough room. All going well, and feeling motivated, should only take 2-3 hours (and beats lifting the box in and out)
