Looks like I'm in the market for akebonos [emoji15]

More than likely it will only be the rears. They are a small pad and seem to last half the time of the fronts.

I can see the wear on mine and its only done 28000ks,alot of that is country ks too.
After saturday I dont want to drive in the city any more, they are playing for keeps,a decent shower of rain means power up.
Saw 2 crashes happen in front of me.First one a pimply faced kid in a wreck of a early 80s corolla ran up the arse of a GT falcon at a stop sign,I didnt hang around, the large ethnic looking owner of the pristine GT looke like he was about to kill the young bloke:):):):).Then on the freeway a camry driver came in hot, didnt judge the stopping distance rammed a Territory up the arse then spun around madly off onto the shoulder.GREAT TO HAVE EXCELLENT BRAKES TO AVOID THIS CRAP.I will be getting a camera soon!!!!

I'm still on factory rears at 96k..

Fitted Akebonos up front when I upgraded rotors, just because I could, but haven't touched the rear yet.

The joys of living remote and not stop start everywhere...

I had rears worn down to the backing at 38k ...... and the sensor didn't trip. Heard a light brake squeal noise at very low speed only.

Combination of city driving and apparently towing contributes to rear wear too, according to the service manager.

I didn't mind getting new pads but replacing the sensor that didn't even work was annoying.

Cheers,
Scott

I was at about 110,000km when I replaced all four rotors and fitted Akebonos to all wheels. Still had plenty of life in the original rotors, and the pads (also original) could probably have gone another 10,000 or so - never hit either of the sensors. And much of those early km's were in Perth, with regular trips to Kalgoorlie and back.

I must go a lot easier on the brakes than some. ;)

Hilly hobart stop start. 38k incidentally wss the same mileage as the last set i did. 5.0litre V8 D4HSE. His fronts have about 20% left.

We just had our rears done at 49k. City driving and towing. Probably lasted that long since it's my wife's daily driver and not mine.

It just beggars belief that people drive so badly in Perth , i just cant get my head around why this is so ??? , i thought that self preservation was a human instinct but obviously does not apply to a broader number of Perth drivers as some appear to be suicidal .
They reckon Canberra drivers are the worst in Oz but hard to imagine how bad it must be their after Perth , Brakes cant have a very long life here .

I just did the rears at 32k but the fronts have another 10k left. All rotors OK. I put it down to the the stability control braking the rear wheels on unsealed roads which have accounted for about 5k of my 32k. I have not towed anything yet. Might have also been sand driving in high range when we did the Simpson but I had DSC off for that. There is some thinking that even with it off it can activate in high range.

I have done about 15000km towing the van.
About 15000km of country driving excluding towing.
I hope that helps Andy.

So the next question is .... Are they making akebonos for front & rear now ?

ok,

trying to pick up the most recent... old thread on brakes as light came on the other day (and off again???) for warn brakes.

ANyway - before I get bent over by the dealer again (as they about to the timing belts) , I am looking the no BS guide on:
- what disks (all round)
- pads (all round)
- for 2011 TDv6 3.0
Assume I need to get the sensor leads?

I recon changing the lot myself is not that hard (have done plenty of brakes on cars /trucks/ tractors at the farm) - bled brakes etc. however I had a look at this video and it seems no bleeding rq - assuming brake reservoir does not run dry on refit and position pistons on compression

Appreciate help.

Discs, I would suggest DBA T2 Slotted
Pads, a Ceramic compound pad...

I'm an Akebono fan but they don't do fronts for 3.0l yet...

gotaflat

Just fit the genuine ones. They are a good compound.

I have just seen and advert for ATE ceramic pads. May have an option for later D4s
