Hi guys, just wondering how everyone else checks there transmission fuild level, as the way the LR book tells u i think it's wrong, most be a better way :?:

I don't know about the Series one Disco, but the usual way is to ensure the vehicle is level, and has been standing for a while. Then remove the level/filler plug and if the level is below the bottom of the plug, add the appropriate oil till it is up to that level.

Been told by many LR / ZF experts:
From cold on level ground in Park or Neutral start the motor wait 30 seconds and you basically only have about a min or so to check the level.
I generally check mine about 3 times in this time - just to make sure.
I now know where on the dipstick the level sits when cold and engine not running - can check and compare if you want?
