Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a used L322...I'm looking to spend 20k. What's the advice of the experts? Advice is needed on such things as recalls, what to look for what to void etc...

I'm not fussed in regards to thirsty engine, if it's the most reliable, as I'm only using it as the second car....10-15ks a year max.

Anyway, open to all, any and every advice

Cheers

Elliot

If it's mechanically as good as it looks, this is what I would buy.

Why? It's the facelift, 2006 were supposed to be more reliable, it's the last manual handbrake model, it has a 4.4 Jag petrol motor which is supposed to be pretty reliable, it has the ZF 6HP26 which is also pretty good.

I've never seen the car in the flesh and don't know the owner. But it has low km for its age and is a lot of car for that money IMHO. It's probably worth a look.

The ZF 6HP gearbox seems to need an oil change every 80-100K. If it has done 150K or more then the advice tends to be not to change the oil, just drive it until it fails then get it rebuilt.

Look for smoke under acceleration, especially blue.

Could be an indication of turbo condition

Thanks guys. So am I correct that the best option is to find a 2006 + 4.4 V8, given the upgraded lights the jag engine and the ZF box??

Yes IMHO if you're doing lowish km per year. Motor / tranny combo was much improved by all accounts I've read. The BMW diesel is a good motor but it's generally accepted let down by the GM tranny on both the L323 and X5.

I have the tdv8 which is a beautiful motor until something goes wrong. Also these are a lot more money than a Jag 4.4.
