View Full Version : 15P Head on a 10P Block

Howdy guys,

The TD5 has done a head gasket and having been inspired by Psimpson7's fantastic write up on that whole process I've decided to give it a crack with the addition of replacing all coolant hoses, resealing fuel cooler and pressure regulator. I suppose from the title you can guess what I've now discovered.

It's a '99 model which means it has a 10P motor, the block stamping confirms this, though while unbolting everything I've noticed it's had a 15P AMC head fitted at some point (3 hose pressure regulator).

I don't exactly trust whoever it was that's done this conversion, the head gasket was cheap, there was entirely too much black silicone used to fit the cam cover and no sealant used between the head and cam carrier. All of which leads me to the following question;

How can I tell that the correct cam and injectors have been used in the 15P conversion and that he hasn't just stuck the old 10P gear into the 15P head? I've seen posts about blue and green top injectors and which motors they should relate to, but no mention of the beige top ones that are fitted to mine.

I know the injectors can be identified by the code on top, but I've not been able to find any information on how to do that, I have the codes if it helps.

Cheers in anticipation,
Zane

Also, there was glazing on all 5 cylinders, would running 15P injectors with the old ECU likely cause this?

Maybe they were glazed before the head was fitted, and the first avail head was fitted to the engine to get it running to flog it off?
